Check Out Wayne Gosnell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wayne Gosnell.

Hi Wayne, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Wayne Gosnell. I started my career when I was 18 years old at a Company called Mascot Homes Inc. This company built Mobile Homes and Modular Homes. I started out as a Draftsman. I obtained my Architectural Engineering degree and finally advanced to VP of Operations during my 22 years at Mascot. After leaving Mascot and working for a few other companies as they’re engineer, I decided after turning 50 yrs old, it is my time. With the help and support of my wife Christina, I was able to start my own company building Park Models. Now trying to find the right place. After many months exploring, I went back to where I grew up, Mascot Homes. They had been shut down since 2009 and on April 13th, 2020 (right in the middle of COVID) I opened the doors to Mountain View Custom Cabins. With 4 employees (one being me) and 4000 sq ft space, and most of all, with Gods guidance, we started. First thing we done was to say a prayer and give God thanks for making that day happen. “Lord, please grow us to what YOU want us to be”. Six years later, we are at 35 to 40 employees and around 80,000 sq ft plant building between 60 to 100 cabins yearly. Thank you LORD, my wife and all the employees at MVCC. We could have not made it with all of you. We currently build Park Models, HUD Code mobile homes and by the end of the year we will be SC and NC state Modular approved. Thank you LORD!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road, LOL…not at all. MVCC has based its reptation on building the best quality park model on the market today. By doing this, we need only top-notch construction workers. This is so hard. Also, like I mentioned, we started April 2020, this is in covid time. Materials were being delivered within days of ordering, then covid made the delivery times go from just a few days to as much as 15 weeks out. HEADACHE!! Also trying to proof that we are better than the others and no one could research who we were. Starting a new company with only $11,000 dollars in my pocket and nothing else except used, wore out tools. We to this day, we owe no one. As Elijah asked the poor widow lady for a meal, and God would always supply, we entered in this business with that same prayer, “Lord, please provide” and through many scary times, HE has come through.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I first started, I was a draftsman only because as a young child I grew to love drawing. My dad was my biggest mentor. I grew up in a family (Dad, stepmom, three sisters and myself). My dad was a Diesel Mechanic and a farmer. The farm I grew up on we raised hogs (LOTS OF PIGS), chickens and couple of goats, 2 ducks and one large rooster that used to chase my youngest sister around. My dad was the only bread winner of the family so I helped him on the farm as far back as I can remember. This man could do anything, and I was so proud of him. My dad went into a nursing home in 2021 and never made it to my plant, all though he wanted too so bad. Daddy would call me sometimes 100 times a day asking what was going on and give me advise on how to handle that issue. My dad passed away Feb 11th, 2024. My goodness I could use some of his calls right now. One of the things daddy taught me was to look at what other are doing and do yours better. I spent 2 years going around the country talking to customers on what problems they have with current builders. I took this information and built MVCC around this. One is the service department. Our word is that if you have an electrical or plumbing issues, we’ll be there within 24 hrs to fix the problem. We sold 23 cabins to Jellystone Campground in Northern Indiana. I got a call on Saturday that 6 lights were not working. The next day after church, my wife and I took off and drove straight through until we got to Indiana. Fixed the issue and came back home the same day. Wow, that was a long drive.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
