Check Out Todd Garland’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Garland.

Hi Todd, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Sweet-Haus Cabins | Founder Bio & Mission | Todd Garland COO

After the real estate crash of 2008, I was recruited by a friend to help stabilize his struggling small home manufacturing company. Unknowingly, that moment placed me at the ground floor of what would soon become the tiny home movement. The company had been building 400-square-foot cabins for campgrounds and hunting properties—simple, bare-bones structures that sold for around $40,000 in 2012.

As the term tiny home gained national recognition, demand grew rapidly. Those early cabins evolved into fully customized homes with the comforts and functionality of modern living. Over the next several years, we sold more than 600 cabins and helped define what small-footprint living could be.

Eventually, a shift in the company’s business philosophy made it clear that my vision no longer aligned with the direction of the business. I wanted to return to intentional design, honest craftsmanship, and homes built to last—not mass production.

That vision became Sweet-Haus Cabins.

Sweet-Haus was founded to create thoughtfully designed, high-quality cabins that balance beauty, efficiency, and durability. Every home is built with purpose—whether it’s a retreat, a full-time residence, or an investment property. Our mission is simple: build smaller homes that live bigger, prioritize quality over quantity, and deliver a better building experience from start to finish.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The primary obstacles were launching a manufacturing business in the aftermath of COVID, when securing a suitable building and sourcing materials proved especially challenging. Once we finally found a building in the right location that met our needs, making it operational presented an entirely new challenge. The previous owner had become something of a hoarder and, over the years, had filled the manufacturing facility from floor to ceiling with a wide assortment of accumulated items. Unfortunately, purchasing the property required taking everything as-is. Clearing and organizing the facility became a major undertaking in itself and ultimately took a full year to complete.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My background is artistically driven. I studied art in college and, in my earlier years, worked primarily with watercolor painting. As I’ve grown older, I’ve continued to view the world through a creative lens, carrying that perspective into every Sweet-Haus design. I can clearly visualize how a space should look and feel, drawing inspiration from anything and everything around me.

What matters most to you? Why?
Quality and customer service come first at Sweet-Haus. We focus on helping our customers and doing the right thing, every time. These values are the foundation of our business and guide every decision we make.
