Check Out Tim Shipp’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Shipp.

Hi Tim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So my story as an EDM Artist goes all the way back to 2011 when I went to my first music festival ever called “Electric Forest” in Rothbury, MI with my two best friends. We’ve never been to a music festival before and we soley wanted to go to see the artist named “Excision” who at the time being wasn’t playing in the United States nearly as much as he is now. We heard about this festival from friends in Charleston, SC and bought tickets, drove 17 hours to camp for 4 days and see just Excision. Crazy I know. We found out Excision was opening the festival and saw him and after that performance I wanted to be a touring festival DJ. Usually when you buy a ticket to a festival, you get your monies worth as far as seeing many artists throughout the weekend….not us. We saw a total of 6 artists that whole weekend. The whole time we were just walking around Sherwood Forest and were completely mesmerized by the art installations, the environment around us, and the people. After the festival I came home and immediately started looking up dj equipment, music making software, and did research on other festivals across the southeast specifically because I wanted to go and experience more of them. I fell in love with the culture and the energy at these shows and couldn’t get enough of it! For years I went to shows and festivals in the southeast. I volunteered and helped friends build their art installations at these festivals in exchange for free tickets and play at renegade campsites at the festivals. It was around 2015 I started getting bookings for local festivals and shows in Charleston, SC. My first dj name was “D0min0” which came from me working at Domino’s pizza back in 2012. I produced and played heavy, energetic bass music, but I would throw in funky bass music in my sets because I love funky music. Around 2020 when covid happened, I decided to make another alias that carried the funky EDM side of me that I love so much and called it “Croozshipp”. Croozshipp is funky bass music meets live instrumentation. Croozshipp is a combination of a Dj set but have instrumentalists improvise during the show. My main Instrumentalist for the Croozshipp performances is my good friend Clark Keagy or “Clark on the sax”. He was one of my good friends that I went with to Electric Forest and have been friends ever since. The Croozshipp project is 5 years old now and it’s just getting started! What’s really cool about this artist journey is both “D0min0” and “Croozshipp” are progressing in their own way, and I couldn’t be happier!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been full of twists and turns. One of the reasons why I feel like I’m seeing the success now is because I’ve taken my time and I’ve found a great balance in my life. I realized very early in my music career that success would not happen overnight. I tried finding balance with my job, school, work, relationships, and much more over those first 10 years. During that time, I was working Food and Beverage and would work full-time while going to school as well as putting in time to work on my craft. I felt many stages throughout those years of burnout, hopeless, and crippling self-doubt, but I still kept going. Finding balance where I could in life. It wasn’t until 2020 I got out of the food and beverage industry and started working as a property manager for my parents managing their short-term rental condos on Isle of Palms. I love my job, not only because I work for my folks, but I’m incredibly valued in this business. Unlike the restaurant industry where I felt like I could be replaced by anybody, even with my skillset and how long I worked in that industry.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Over the last thirteen year being on and off working on my music, I learned a lot about mixing and mastering, specifically EDM songs. I’ve worked with a ton of amazing producers that taught me a lot of new techniques and strategies for achieving well produced songs. I’m specifically known for making great bass music and funky EDM. My greatest achievements in life have been opening up the Incendia Stage at Hulaween Music Festival in 2023. I got to open the stage that year and it was everything I could have ever imagined. I had pyro-techniques going along with my music, which was a new level of production I’ve never had before. All my best friends, my wife, and my little sister got to see me rock out! It was like all my hard work over those years really paid off. That moment was just a taste of the lifestyle I’m looking forward too!

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Through my Property Management job, we’re building a vacation rental website called “StayNook” where guests can book vacation rentals at a fraction of the price as to what VRBO and Airbnb are charging as far as taxes and fees. StayNook is a short-term rental platform that enables property owners and managers to list their properties at no cost, connecting them directly with vacation seekers. Transactions occur without StayNook’s involvement, allowing owners to collect rental fees directly, while only paying a small booking fee of 5% upon confirmed bookings. StayNook aims to offer travelers a lower-cost alternative to major rental companies, which often impose high fees. Travelers can expect to pay significantly less for the same rental properties found on other platforms. The website is not launched yet, but we’re looking forward to having it done before the end of this year.
