Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Roberts
Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a passion for tattooing, but I lacked the confidence in my art to pursue it early on. Instead, I went to college and changed my major several times before finally settling on art education, thinking it would be a way to stay connected to art while keeping my options open. Then, during the pandemic, I contracted COVID-19 and had a really difficult experience. I honestly feared for my life at one point. When I recovered, I took time to reflect on everything, and it became clear to me that life is too short to not go after what I truly wanted.
So, I committed to making tattooing a reality. Over the next three years, I worked tirelessly on my portfolio in every free moment I had. I reached out to other artists, asking about apprenticeship opportunities, and eventually, I was able to land one. Today, I’m incredibly grateful to be working at a fantastic shop with some truly talented and kind people who have helped me get to where I am now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle for me has been building confidence in myself. I take the responsibility of permanently marking people’s skin very seriously, and that weight can be daunting. Thankfully, I’ve had many supportive people in my life who constantly remind me, “You can do this!” That encouragement has been invaluable.
Another challenge I faced was the lack of formal training during my apprenticeship. I wasn’t taught much directly, so I had to rely on the generosity of other artists who took the time to mentor me. It’s because of their guidance and willingness to share their knowledge that I’m able to do what I do today. I truly wouldn’t be the artist I am without their support.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Since I’m still relatively new to the field, I can’t say I specialize in anything specific or am widely known for one style just yet. However, what I can say is that I truly enjoy is the freedom to flex my creativity. I love working in a variety of styles, including anime, blackwork, kawaii (bright, colorful, and cute), black and grey realism, and both Japanese and American traditional. I also enjoy exploring more niche styles like glitter, porcelain, and pixel tattoos.
What I’m most proud of is when clients recommend me to their friends and family. Knowing that someone had such a great experience with me and loves my work enough to shout me out is an incredibly rewarding feeling.
What sets me apart is my drive to constantly learn and improve. When I come across something new I want to master, I dedicate myself to practicing it repeatedly on fake skin until I can execute it with confidence. I never offer a style or technique unless I’m sure I can deliver it to the best of my ability.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’d just like to say that no matter where you are in life or what you’re pursuing, it’s never too late to go after your dreams. I’ve learned that taking risks and stepping outside of your comfort zone can lead to amazing growth, even when it’s scary. For anyone who might be thinking about a career change or trying something new, my advice is to just take that first step. You might not know exactly how things will turn out, but the journey will teach you so much along the way.
Also, I’m incredibly grateful to the tattoo community and the clients who have trusted me with their bodies and stories. It’s such an honor to be part of something that’s both an art form and a meaningful experience for people.
