Check Out Tamera Wharton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamera Wharton.

Hi Tamera, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up with a mother who enjoyed capturing and documenting memories. So, it’s no doubt that I inherited the love for picture taking from my mom. However, nine (9) years ago, I discovered the art of photography for myself when I received my first point-and-shoot camera (Nikon Coolpix). During my discovery, I was astounded by the different perspectives one image could create. It was at that moment, my passion ignited, and I created a Facebook page to showcase my art.

After creating my Facebook page, I made a post stating “Tami Photography, I just love taking photos of family and friends, and one day, this will turn into a successful business”. I did not remember making this post after rediscovering it in 2020, but I am now living in this declaration today.

To backtrack a bit on my journey, it was in 2019 when my older sister encouraged me to get back into photography,

even if it was just a part-time gig. However, I had no intentions to start a photography business but was more focused on how I could start other business ideas I came up with. Unfortunately, those ideas began to frustrate me, so I had to give them a rest.

Then in 2020, my siblings gifted me with my first professional camera and I decided that I would create a website to begin building my portfolio since I did not go to school for photography. Even though I planned on building my portfolio, starting a business in the pandemic was truly not my intention, but God had better plans ahead for me.

Towards the end of 2020 and early 2021, I felt like something was missing from my life or there was something I needed to do. Being a Christian, I prayed for clarification in hopes of getting my answer and, I did. God revealed to me that “I was wasting time and needed to get my business registered by the end of March 2021 and watch Him work in my business”. Upon getting this clarification, I was determined to fulfill God’s plans and registered my business on March 1, 2021.

When I think about my story and how many years and signs it took to get me here, I am indeed grateful that I have found a part of my purpose in life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The transition into starting my business was smooth as far as getting equipment and software.

However, I had some struggles with finding out what exactly I needed to have in place to operate my business legally and finding a mentor to guide me along the way… However, with much research, I was able to get the process started on my own.

Similar to other creatives when starting out on their journey, my biggest struggle is overcoming self-doubt and fear. Despite the occasional moments of those feelings, I have decided to give myself grace in this journey. Also, the encouragement I receive from family, friends, and my TP Fam has been helpful.

Lastly, another struggle is getting my business out there on the market to attract my ideal clients. However, in addition to paid ads, I have been featured in a few other articles. So, I am positive these features will help with generating more traffic to my social media platforms.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize primarily in Branding, Lifestyle, and Couples photography.

I am known for capturing the right moments and moods while bringing my bold and fun personality to my sessions.

I am super proud of myself for taking a leap of faith to walk into my purpose as not only a creative but my drive to lead others to their purpose.

I believe my attention to detail, colors, and feelings set me apart from others. Through these approaches, I am able to showcase the authenticity, beauty, and confident-filled poses of my TP Fam (clients).

How do you define success?
I define success through growth, reaching new levels, getting past obstacles, and leaving an environment better than I met it.

Absolutely fantastic! My son found Tami via Tumbler and for Mother’s Day used Tami for a family photo shoot. From there I used Tami for my fiber arts business, something I probably wouldn’t have done if not for the great time we had doing family photos! I am so pleased with the work Tami did for me (one of my fiber art pieces are shown in the article), that I know I will be using her again! Kudos 🥰
