Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Abrosimova
Hi Tamara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started off as background and moved up the ladder- got an agent, did professional headshots, built demo reel by working for free in bunch of student films, did few commercials and short films, got co-star role and so on.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It is NEVER a smooth road in the film industry. Whenever a celebrity says “I got discovered and became famous”, I start laughing. It does happen, yes, but in extremely rare cases.
Acting takes hard work and most of it is marketing and making connections. I knew someone who got me my first agent, another colleague who I met at one of the acting classes always recommends me agents outside of my market, and I am currently signed with one of them. Few casting directors know me, because I attended a film networking event years ago. The question that other actors, crew members, directors and other people always need to ask themselves “How are you going to get known & discovered if you are stuck at home?” Which is interesting, because most of the work I personally do happens at home- emailing potential managers, self-taping, talking with other actors and writing…it all happens from home!
Constant struggle is not comparing yourself to A-listers who got famous after one or two roles, or someone who slept with a famous producer & director to get roles. Also nepotism is a big issue in the industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started off as an actor, got into directing during CoVid, dabbled in comedy last year and did few gigs in Charleston.
I specialise in self-tapes and how to get started in the film industry, types of red flags to avoid, etc
I am most proud of getting serious auditions for big names like Glen Powell, Chris Evans, Seth MacFarlane, Coen Brothers.
I even got to audition for the lead female character in “Roofman” that was filmed in Charlotte. It went to Kirsten Dunst instead (she was a better choice for that role anyway).
Since I come from different culture and background in general, I tend to get either typecast or only known for being trilingual, but I am so much more than that! I play multiple instruments, sing, dance, know how to do handle weapons, I do magic tricks, have a bit of experience in stunts, always willing to go Method for a role and much more!
Currently I am writing a screenplay of anthology series that’s heavily inspired by a British dark comedy series “Inside no 9”, a drama series “Black Mirror” and the original “Twilight Zone”.
I also went back to modelling and currently participating in a contest for MAXIM Cover Girl, so make sure to VOTE FOR ME 😉
In spare time I have been volunteering at a local hospital where I get to work with kids and newborns.
I got to audition for America’s got talent, Britain’s got talent and Canada’s got talent which is something I didn’t think of doing, but figured why not, life is short!
I travel quite a lot, and planning to hit Australia and New Zealand this spring.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is doing something you love every single day, getting paid for it and not worrying where the next pay check will come from. Stability and staying out of other people’s drama helps greatly.
Success is when you are surrounded and supported by people you meet along your journey who become lifelong friends.
