Check Out Susanna Rankin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susanna Rankin.

Hi Susanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved to bake and be in the kitchen. When I was little, my Mama would let me help her in the kitchen and she taught me so much and made it fun! In 2021, I took an online pastry arts program through Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, where I learned everything about baking all sorts of pastries. The following year, I began selling my baked goods to family and friends and those in my community. Since then, I have enjoyed baking for others and getting to meet so many special people in my community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been easy. One of the biggest struggles has been figuring how to market myself. Finding the time to advertise is hard as well as taking quality photos of my products. Another challenge is balancing my schedule as I work a part time job and own another small business with one of my sisters making skin care products. Another challenge I’ve had is being able to say “no” to requests. I have to realize that I can’t bake everything for everyone.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a home baker, and I love to create delicious treats and baked goods for others. I specialize in creating good, simple cookies like classic Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, etc. I also make macarons which is what a lot of people know me for. Not a lot of people in my community bake macarons as they can be a challenge, so this is something that I take joy in getting to bake. I would say what sets me a part from others is my menu of simple and somewhat old-fashioned baked goods. I love quality treats that taste as good as they look. Also, I couldn’t do what I do without the Lord’s help and the support of my amazing family. My biggest fans are my family and I love any opportunity to bake with my Mama or my sisters. I love getting to involve them with my business anytime they can! They are the ones that encourage me to dream big and put myself out there.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Being able to showcase/sell my products is something that I feel would help my business. Events, catering, parties, etc. would be wonderful ways for me to advertise my products and meet more people. Sharing my FB page and telling your friends/family about me would be wonderful ways to support me on this journey!
