Check Out SiYoung Kim’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to SiYoung Kim.

Hi SiYoung; thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I married my wife, Kim, who is American, in 2017. This was the reason I immigrated to the US from South Korea. My background is in tourism; having run a traditional Korean bed and breakfast in Seoul and moving to the States, my experience could have been more helpful, and I needed to broaden my work horizons. This ultimately led me to start Wow Wash Crew, a commercial and residential pressure washing and window cleaning company.

Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being an immigrant, I have struggled with confidence in new surroundings, especially regarding communication, as English is my third language. I have found people to be very patient and understanding, but occasionally there is some difficulty. Unfortunately, I may always struggle with it, but I am constantly working to improve.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
A good friend hired me for part-time work pressure washing and window cleaning in the Spartanburg area. He took me under his wing and taught me all the tricks of the trade, and after a few summers, he encouraged me to start my own business in the Easley area. I found the work satisfying and always enjoyed homeowners’ reactions to their freshly washed properties. This inspired the name of our company; Wow Wash Crew, as that’s most often the first thing our customer says, “WOW!” From when I was an employee to now owning my own company, I have treated each property as if it were my own, always going the extra mile to satisfy a customer. Each night I come home from work, I know I gave my best, which is a feeling of pride.

We love surprises, fun facts, and incredible stories. Can you share something that might surprise us?
I love learning! As I said, English is my third language. I chose to get my Bachelor’s Degree in China, graduating with a degree in World Trade and Chinese Translation. I taught myself English just by hanging out with English-speaking people in Korea and China. I was always interested in computers, so I taught myself how to design and maintain websites. I wanted to experience business management, so I created my restaurant in Seoul. This love of learning and love of people has motivated many of my life decisions and has taught me anything is achievable with the right attitude!
