Hi Rowan Prose, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Rowan Prose Publishing was founded in 2023 and launched in January 2024 to be a unique publishing and reader experience. Large publishing houses have dominated the market with titles they pick, and for years, those were the only options. But then, the indie boom happened, giving a voice and opportunity to not only authors, but to readers, too.
However, the book world is saturated with titles. It’s inundating. How does a new emerging author get published? When a traditional publishing contract has run out, what do those authors do with their books once they’ve left the shelves? What about authors who want the cushion of a publisher, yet the freedom of self-publishing? What about readers who want something different than the same hyped books?
That’s exactly what Rowan Prose was created for. And yes, we are a traditional small press publisher. We bring a fresh approach to the industry by publishing books readers want with tropes others won’t touch. We publish second or third edition runs by your favorite authors whose contracts elsewhere have ended. We publish newbie authors just emerging from their cocoons. Our top priority is to make our authors shine and their readers turning pages.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The market is difficult right now. The biggest challenge is trying to convince readers to take a chance on a new author, or the struggle to get the books seen by the right audience. By doing so, though, people will fall in love with the stories, and support small business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We publish varying genres of fiction for mostly debut authors. We tend to tackle books that bend genre norms or that don’t fit with what other publishers are doing. We strive to create a wonderful environment for both authors and readers with unique tropes.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Rowan Prose was founded by authors, so we were always dreaming our had a book playing out in our heads.
