Check Out Rebecca Tallarico’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Tallarico.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
People often ask how I got started, and the truth is, I knew from the very beginning at the age of five years old, I told my mom I wanted to be a “hair lady” and here I am, still living that dream. I attended cosmetology school while I was in high school in New York State and have been behind the chair since I was 17 years old. Thirty_seven years later, I can honestly say I still love this craft as much as I did when I started.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to build lasting relationships with my clients and grow alongside them. I owned a large salon in Greenville, South Carolina, for 17 years before moving to Charleston 11 years ago. Today, I work in a small, intimate boutique studio where I offer personalized hair services, including cutting, color, highlights, and my specialty hair extensions. I also love helping clients put together their personal style through a bit of personal shopping. For me, it’s always been about making people feel beautiful, confident, and truly themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any career, there have been challenges along the way, but I’ve always believed that hard work and perseverance can get you through almost anything. I’ve been working since I was 14 years old, and that work ethic has carried me through every chapter of my life. Going through a divorce more than 20 years ago was certainly a difficult time, and moving to Charleston, where I hardly knew anyone, meant starting over, But by staying true to my craft, working hard, and building relationships one client at a time, I created a business and a life that I’m incredibly grateful for today.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’ve never really considered myself a big risk taker, but looking back, opening my own business was definitely a leap of faith. I didn’t have a full clientele, and there were no guarantees about how everything would come together. What gave me the confidence to move forward was knowing how deeply I love what I do and trusting that hard work, dedication, and treating people well would pay off. In the end, that leap turned into one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
