Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Allison.
Mallory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a mom with two young kids I found myself consumed by motherhood, and scrolling mindlessly during any downtime. I was caught in a cycle that left me unfulfilled, but after a Bible study at my church about listening to the Holy Spirit I tuned into what God was asking of me. I felt a conviction to put my phone down and use my hands to make something.
I started off making cards, played around with paper crafts, learned to carve and make prints, and finally fell in love with painting. I painted several murals at home, and was blessed with the opportunity to paint a few murals at my church.
Now I’m painting banners, stage props, murals, window art and any other projects that crop up. I love learning to use new materials, and I love that art is a part of my ministry serving the Lord.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Any time I spend creating is time well spent. It’s time learning and honing my craft, and often it is time spent in prayer. Since I don’t rely on my art to pay the bills, the turns and bumps in the road are all just a part of the process.
I am eternally grateful to my husband Martin for his support, and for being a wonderful provider so that I can pursue this interest.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am primarily a muralist and window painter, although recently I have dabbled in making stage props and I really enjoyed that. Hand painted banners are quite popular right now, and I have been painting those as well.
I am most proud of how quickly I have learned and progressed. What started as a hobby to keep my hands busy has quickly taken on a life of its own. That’s a God thing 100%.
What sets me apart is my versatility and problem solving when it comes to creating. I have yet to turn down a project, and really enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to make ideas come to life.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
When I was young I thought that being successful meant being in charge. Now I know it means building a life where you can be authentic.
I am valued for who I am, and I show up completely as myself in every aspect of my life. I use the skills I have been given and God fills in the rest.
