Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Deuce
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up playing with mt dad and his friends. My dad has a luthier shop, and people were always around pickin’. Dad hosted a jam at the shop for years, and I grew up in that environment. I began playing gigs in middle school, and its always felt like its what I’m supposed to do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The music industry is definitely not a smooth road. Being able to play and sing, sure, takes a lot of time and practice. Writing causes you to expose your feelings, but the business of music…well its tough. Booking shows, keeping a band together, social media, studios, releasing music, are all things I didn’t expect. Thankfully, I have a team that helps and guides me through. I’m working hard to gain recognition and for the chance to perform for bigger audiences. But, the opportunities don’t come easy. South Carolina has been hit with a “SC Venue Crisis” causing many venues to shutter their doors. And were still reeling from the devastation of hurricane Helene, many of our North Carolina venues will be closed for a long time. However, staying focused and hard work, we’ll keep growing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
People are often shocked and say, “I didn’t expect that voice, to come out of you!” Once I get a crowds attention we’re in for a fun time. I love performing, even being introverted, on stage I feel safe. I’ve stayed true to my traditional country roots, and when I write, I write from times gone by. I’ve been able to do some cool things on this journey, but this year has been full of some milestones. 2024 SC Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame “Rising Star”. 2024 Carolina Country Music Assoc. “Carolina Artist Showdown winner Aug and Sept”. 2024 Josie Awards. “Rising Star” nominee. I’ve been busy building my writers catalog and have now released 43 of my original songs. I’ve still got 100+ unreleased and continue writing every week.
How do you think about happiness?
I release a song this year, “Good Enough For You” and its about me growing up and not being as good at things as my buddies, and the struggle of finding my way in music. There’s a line in the song, “watching you dance to my songs, gets me feeling high. I could play here all night long, watching you have a goodtime.” It makes me happy seeing people dance and enjoy my music, singing the lyrics back to me, its just the best.
