Today we’d like to introduce you to L.B. Martin
Hi L.B., we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started writing in elementary school. Stories would come to me quickly, and then my passion turned more towards reading as I got older. I love getting lost in books where the worlds and characters come alive. After majoring in British Literature in college, I knew I wanted to become an author. Despite facing personal and family challenges, I published my first book in March 2023.
It was a surreal moment when I held my first paperback in my hands. Once The Write Knight was out into the wild, I immediately started on the next book in the series. On May 17th, 2024 I published my fourth book and ended the Knight Publishing Series. I quickly dove into writing another series and that’s where I am today.
It’s important to me to include mental illness in all of my books. I feel it’s a topic that doesn’t receive the attention it deserves, and I want to shed more light on the subject. I often receive messages from readers informing me that my books helped them through a rough patch in life. This fills me with more joy than being a bestseller ever could. My goal in writing has always been to help those who suffer as I do. If I can help just one person, then my job is done.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
During my career as an author, I have faced many challenges. At times, the words flow effortlessly from my mind, while at other times, I worry that they may never come again. I often struggle with imposter syndrome, which is a real and ever-present obstacle that I must overcome. Through tears and anxiety, my husband is always there to support and encourage me. He understands my fears but continues to believe in me despite them.
As a self-published indie author, marketing my books seems more difficult than writing the manuscripts. I don’t have a publishing company backing me up to push my books into the right hands. Fortunately, after my first release, I met an amazing author who has helped me more than they could ever know. I was taken under their wing and shown the best ways to market and promote, leading me to the best friendship of my life. The indie author community is open and welcoming, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the selfless help of others, especially Lenore Danvers.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write steamy contemporary romance books that deal with difficult topics like mental illness. The Knight Publishing Series consists of four standalone books that are interconnected and revolve around the Knight family. Each book tells a new love story involving characters from the previous books.
I am known for writing heart-wrenching scenes that can break readers’ hearts, but I always make sure to piece them back together with my happily ever afters.
I’m most proud of my writing journey and the progress I’ve made with each book, as I continue to learn and grow.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I attribute my success to the fact that I incorporate my own experiences into my books. Each story I write includes a traumatic event that I’ve personally lived through. I use these experiences to develop the plots and to demonstrate to readers that despite adversity, one can emerge with scars but still come out on the other side.
My books may be fictional, but the emotions written within are real.
My tagline is “healing scars one word at a time”.
