Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Symone Price
Hi Kayla Symone, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I embarked on my journey in sports leadership and management at a young age, excelling in tennis and achieving top rankings at the state and national levels until I turned 18. This dedication earned me a full scholarship to my chosen institution, Morgan State University, I became the second winningest women in tennis history.
This transition sparked my desire to immerse myself in sports as both a lifestyle and a career. I gained valuable experience through internships with the Baltimore Ravens, full time employment working at park and recreation centers, being an educator and taking on roles such as facility manager and assistant athletic director at both high school and college levels.
As I navigated my sports career, I expanded my education by pursuing degrees in sports management and digital marketing. This combination of skills led me to win the prestigious Top Impactful 8 Award in North Carolina, as well as several technology awards in digital marketing.
My journey as a woman in sports has set a precedent for others to follow, inspiring them to achieve even more than I have.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While my journey hasn’t always been smooth, it has certainly been a blessed one. One of the challenges I consistently face is navigating perceptions of beauty in the workplace. Unfortunately, this often means that people focus more on my appearance than on my skills and mindset. To combat this, I committed myself to furthering my education, ensuring that the respect I receive is earned through my hard work and execution.
Being an alpha female comes with its share of challenges, but each obstacle ultimately leads to significant victories.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work as the Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Affairs at Livingstone College, where I am recognized as the executive extension of the Director of Athletics. In this role, I also play a significant part in managing the financial aspects of the athletic department. I take pride in being one of the few women in a predominantly male field, known as a “heavy hitter” who is taken seriously and consistently gets the job done.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The Bible serves as a significant source of inspiration for me. My faith is the driving force behind my success and the foundation that will propel me toward future achievements.
