Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Budig.
Hi Kathryn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been teaching yoga for over 20 years. I was trained by Maty Ezraty and Chuck Miller at Yogaworks in Santa Monica where I taught for 7 years alongside leading retreats, workshops, conferences around the world. I currently own and teach on my online platform Haus of Phoenix.
I’m the founder of The Inky Phoenix book club as well as the acquiring editor of Inky Phoenix Press under Bindery Books. I’ve also authored two books: The Women’s Health Big Book of Yoga and Aim True.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A smooth road would worry me! I’ve experienced hurdles in every endeavor, which enables me to step away from my ego and see the big picture: what can I do better? How am I standing in my own way? What kind of experience are my students, readers, community looking for and how can I better provide that? Without sacrificing myself, of course.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve lived many lives and had plenty of career pivots, and through out all of this, I’ve realized the connecting thread is storytelling and building community. I believe deeply in the power of story and connecting like-minded folks. All of my business, ranging from teaching yoga to writing books to publishing them — they are all rooted in brining people together. “It takes a village” as they say, but I like to say it takes a coven of magical people.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I used to think happiness came from success, but have learned it is the complete opposite. I’m so proud of my professional accomplishments, but find the most joy in honoring stillness and embracing joyful choices that celebrate who I am at my core; not as a professional.
