Hi Karessa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My business first started out as a social media marketing consulting and service business. The idea came from the work I was already doing to grow my online personal brand MissRessaT. With MissRessaT, I make Youtube videos so I already had a thing for capturing moments through photo and video. One day my older sister called me upset because the photographer she booked for that day had canceled on her and the rest was history! I took her business photos, did a few businesses promotional videos and kept getting booked. That was 9 years ago… Karessa Socially Connected eventually evolved into KSC Production Imagery providing strictly photography and videography services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! However the road has been rewarding. Blessings like receiving my first professional camera for free and getting business advice from a fellow photographer for free really helped especially starting out. However not having any start up capital was a struggle. On hand capital is always a struggle even now as equipment needs to be upgraded, repairs, studio needs, etc. The biggest challenge however is definitely staying mentally positive. When business is good it is good but when it isn’t…it isn’t lol. Being a solo entrepreneur and having to be every aspect of my business has led to burnout and loss of passion at times.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
W specialize in wedding, portrait and event photography. From solo to group sessions we pride myself on making everyone feel comfortable and seen how they want to be seen. We consider the eye for the perfect shot or capturing the perfect moment in motion is an art. Being creative in studio and outdoor set ups to bring something new and fun to shoots. I say what sets us apart is that we operate each project as bigger than just shot. I want to get to know my clients, understand their vision, their backstory to truly understand the importance of them booking my services. While we run a tight ship when it comes to handing business professionally, we also try to make a personal connection with not only the client but the important people connected to them. It means the world to me to be asked to be apart of such intimate moments and that reflects in the work I provide. We are known for our details shots of decor and products, our off guard shots at events, high quality images, our professional standards, our client care and the joy, comfortability, and fun we bring to every booking!
