Today we’d like to introduce you to Imani-Grace King
Hi Imani-Grace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Over the past two years, I’ve attended more funerals and celebrations of life than birthday parties and weddings. That was new for me. It made me reflect on how much grief has woven itself into my life—almost like it’s been my birthright. And after all that loss, I see my purpose clearly: I’m here to heal as many people as I can while I’m on this earth.
In 2021, I started working at an organization called New Earth, which provides healing services to system-impacted youth through art, mental health support, and job opportunities. I work with young people who have experienced complex trauma, and through that work, I learned a trauma-informed approach—not just toward others, but toward myself and the world around me.
That work changed me. It helped me see the glory in my wounds, just as I was helping others see the glory in theirs. It deepened my understanding of healing—that for me, it isn’t just a concept; it’s something woven into art, into words, into the way we show up for each other.
For the past 6 years, that healing has taken the form of storytelling—through film, books, and writing. But now, it’s evolved into something more specific, more expansive. That’s why I created Letters to the Souls, a brand dedicated to healing through words, art, and community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it hasn’t been smooth! And every time I answer this question, I realize more and more just how not smooth it’s been (she laughs fully). But I also realize that the challenges, the detours, and the heartbreak have shaped everything I’ve created.
One of the biggest roads in my life has been my relationship with my sister, who is terminally ill. Her joy, her love, and the healing she’s given me have influenced every piece of art I’ve ever made. At the heart of my work is this deep desire to engage with life fully. And that’s not a smooth road—because it demands that you feel everything. But it’s the road that led me here, and for that, I’m endlessly grateful. I wouldn’t dream of having it any other way.
There have been a lot of ups and downs—moments of self-doubt, challenges, questioning whether I’m on the right path, waiting for my turn to share my talents while feeling like others are getting opportunities before me. There’s been a lot of giving my best energy, my best spirit, all my determination—only to not get the outcome I expected. But that journey has taught me to release control and trust that my soul is evolving in ways I may not fully understand yet.
And then, after all those moments of frustration or impatience, I always come back to this: What would my sister do? And the answer is always simple: Enjoy life. Don’t take things so seriously. Life is delicate. So why not find joy in what’s unfolding right in front of me?
That’s been one of my biggest lessons—taking the work seriously, taking the opportunity seriously, but also being a silly goose about it. Because at the end of the day, all we are is the minutes we’re living. So why not make them good minutes? Why not make them joyful and loving minutes?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My brand, Letters to the Souls, is now the umbrella for everything I do. It’s writing that makes people feel seen. It’s one-on-one sessions where I help people dream out loud, brainstorm, and bring their visions to life—because sometimes, healing starts with being witnessed. It’s affirmation cards designed with intention, to shift energy and invite in the best possible outcomes.
It’s also about creation. I know how overwhelming the process of bringing a film to life can be—the logistics, the planning, the doubts that creep in. Another branch of Letters to the Souls is about helping people bring their short films, podcasts, or any form of art to fruition. I offer guidance in pre-production and storytelling, ensuring that visions don’t get lost in the details. And finally, Letters to the Souls is my own production company—where I’ll be creating short films and projects that center healing.
At its core, Letters to the Souls is about healing through art. Whether through writing, filmmaking, consulting, or one-on-one sessions, the mission remains the same: How can we create art that heals? How can I help you get the resources and support you need to thrive as a healed, creative person?
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
What a lovely question! For me, my metric of success is, did I make people feel like they matter?
If someone walks away from a conversation with me, from a film I’ve made, from a piece of writing I’ve shared, and they feel a little bit less alone—then that, to me, is success! If they feel like they can actually do the things that are planted in their heart, if they feel like their dreams are possible, if they feel seen—that’s a big one to me! Did that answer the question?
Oh! And grace! That’s an important quality for my success. Giving myself and others an abundance of grace and patience. It’s about allowing myself to be human, to make mistakes, to learn, and to grow without shame. It’s also about extending that grace to others, creating a space where people feel safe to be who they are!
