Today we’d like to introduce you to Darelle Hughes.
Hi Darelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story, Big Blade, begins at the age of 11, when words first started to flow from pen to paper. Inspired by his father, Vibe, a rapper from the legendary group Cashmob, music wasn’t just a passion—it was in his blood. Growing up, he watched his father command the mic and knew that one day, he would carve his own lane in the industry.
Determined to build something of his own, Big Blade founded Cashmobb Entertainment, a record label dedicated to giving independent artists a platform to shine. Through this movement, he has helped numerous artists showcase their talents, organizing three major music events that brought performers to the stage. But his influence extends beyond just putting artists in the spotlight—he has also served as a manager and adviser to five artists, guiding them through the challenges of the music industry.
What sets Big Blade apart is his self-taught mastery of the craft. Without formal training, he learned videography, production, piano, and songwriting, making him a powerhouse both in front of and behind the scenes. His versatility allowed him to create music that resonates with fans while also helping other artists refine their sound.
His dedication has led to collaborations with industry names like Derez Deshon, Fooley, Dre Markeeys, BrisGod, and more. Each feature, each song, and each event is a testament to his relentless grind and his commitment to uplifting those around him.
But his impact doesn’t stop with music. Big Blade also hosts In The Cut Radio Show on WDRB Media, using the platform to highlight independent artists, discuss industry insights, and bring fresh voices to the airwaves. His presence in radio further solidifies his role as a key figure in shaping the future of independent music.
Big Blade isn’t just an artist—he’s a visionary, a leader, and a force pushing the culture forward. And this is only the beginning.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has been many struggles through out my journey. When I first started making music one of my best friends was shot and killed. His name was Jamal Gainey. At the time he was something like a manager to me. He was in communication with some bigger artists with money and we were sending music to them at the time of his murder. After this I was alone to navigate my way with music. I have taught myself a lot along the way but learning the music game in general was a struggle. Most recently I made a project titled “A Grieving Heart”. This project was due to all the loved ones that I tragically lost in the year of 2024. Those losses include my grandmother, grandfather, ex-wife and mother of my youngest two kids who now live with me, a childhood friend, a comrade from serving in the military and a few more the list could go a bit farther. These losses put me in a dark place and I was able to come up with a very good project that helped me write my way through all this trauma.
