Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Richardson
Hi Corey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always had a deep love for animals, and in the winter of 2023, I decided to turn that passion into something more—Daniel Island Paws and Claws. I noticed a growing need in the community for reliable, in-home pet care from someone who truly treats each pet like family. That’s what inspired me to create a service where pet parents could feel at ease, knowing their pets were receiving attentive, loving care.
In the beginning, it was just me, dedicating early mornings, late nights, and weekends to caring for pets while also making sure I had the proper training to provide the best care possible. I became CPR and First Aid Certified for cats and dogs through the American Red Cross, took additional pet care courses, and ensured Daniel Island Paws and Claws was fully licensed, insured, and bonded.
As word spread and more families entrusted me with their pets, the business naturally grew. By the summer of 2023, I was fortunate enough to bring on two wonderful team members to help meet the demand, allowing us to care for even more pets in Daniel Island and the surrounding areas.
This journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful for the amazing pets and their families who have welcomed us into their lives. It’s been a joy to build relationships within the community, and I look forward to continuing to provide dependable, compassionate care for the pets who mean so much to their families.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. Balancing Daniel Island Paws and Claws while also managing a dental practice full-time on Daniel Island was a challenge—there were long days, late nights, and very little time for myself in the beginning. Finding that balance took time, and there were moments when it felt overwhelming.
But the hard work has been worth it. Over time, I found a rhythm that worked, and I’m incredibly grateful to have two wonderful team members who share the same dedication to providing top-quality pet care. Their support has allowed me to continue growing the business while also finding a better work-life balance. It’s been a journey, but one that has been rewarding in so many ways!

We provide personalized, in-home pet care tailored to the needs of each pet and their family. Our services include:
Overnight Pet Care (in your home)
Dog Walking
Dog Drop-In Visits
Cat Drop-In Visits
Add-On Services such as pet waste removal, dog bathing, house cleaning, pet transportation, and even grocery runs!
Our overnight pet care includes two complimentary drop-in visits, as well as plant care, mail and package retrieval, freshening up linens, and keeping your home tidy. We also make scheduling simple with our online booking app, where clients can request services, pay invoices, and receive detailed report cards about their pet’s care.

More than anything, I’m grateful for the amazing pets and families we serve. Knowing that we make a difference in their lives is what makes this work so rewarding!
What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is waking up each day knowing I’m making a difference in someone’s life. Whether it’s a client traveling across the country, feeling at ease knowing their pets are safe and loved, or a doctor working a 24-hour shift, relieved that their pet is well cared for—I love being that trusted support system.
I’ve always had a deep love for animals and wished I could adopt every one I met. This business allows me to spend every single day with pets I adore, giving them the love and care they deserve while bringing peace of mind to their families. There’s nothing more rewarding than that!
