Check Out Chris Wilson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Wilson

Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s very strange. I always thought it would be cool to be a comedian. It sounded like a neat thing to do. You make people laugh for a job. I never thought I’d actually get to do it. My long time phobia of speaking in public wouldn’t allow it, but eventually I got over it. If I can get over that, I can do anything. So, here I am.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. The biggest is that phobia of speaking. I would literally get sick on days we had to do presentations to the class in school.

Travel is tough, as I can’t medically drive. So, I’m lucky to have a good mom and good friends that support me.

Joke writing is difficult. If you get Writer’s Block, it can shut you down for weeks and months. You start to feel unfunny when you don’t produce material after a while.

I have legitimate memory issues with lists. I know my jokes, but I’ll forget what I was going to say. I’m working on getting better with it.

I struggle with doing well at things. I always get worried when things go well. How long will this high last? Comedy is wild. One night you can own a room, and the next night you can do the same killer jokes and it won’t go well. You start to get thicker skin. Haha.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a comedian. Which is funny in itself, because to me, I don’t think I’m funny at all. I’m glad other people seem to think so.

I’m proud that my mom told me she was proud of me. I’m proud that I was able to put out a comedy album on my own. It’s really cool that you can pull it up in someone’s car, or you can ask your Google and Alexa to pull it up, and it will.

I’ve won a few “Funny or Fired” comedy game shows.

I got to do a couple “Don’t Tell Comedy” shows.

I think having Cerebral Palsy sets me apart. The fact that I can turn a negative into a positive is great. You know that famous comic with Cerebral Palsy? That’s not me. I’m the “Not Famous” one.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I use all those things in some way or another. I mainly read horror novels and listen to pro wrestling podcasts. I guess the podcasts help with presenting yourself and storytelling, so yeah I guess they do help. I do use my notepad and voice recorder on my phone a lot for comedy.

If you wanna know about a few of my favorites I like:

The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson.

I love the Resident Evil book series by SD Perry.

I love zombie novels. One of my favorites is Emergency Broadcast by Boris Bacic.

Other books:

The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank.

The Girl Who Owned a City by O.T. Nelson

Podcasts:

Jim Cornette’s Driv-Thru.

Welcome To Nightvale.

Creepcast.
