Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Morrison
Hi Candice, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a licensed cosmetologist in November 2011. I managed the salon I worked in for 8 years and then became the owner. I recently closed down that traditional model salon formerly known as Blush Salon which served Columbia and surrounding areas since 2013. Although the decision was not easy due to the impact to our clients, salon family and the culture created throughout years, I decided to open salon suites now known as Nova Salon Suites. Our doors opened August 2024 and my decision was driven by various factors within the cosmetology community.
For starters, suites offer Increased flexibility which allows professionals to set their own hours. Also enhanced privacy where both clients and stylist enjoy a more private experience. Let’s not leave out lower overhead cost. Operating a traditional salon often involves higher overhead with staffing and utilities. Salon suites have lower overhead which leads to better profit margins. Salon suites also empower professionals to run their own business, offering them the freedom to chose their own products, pricing, branding which can lead to greater job satisfaction. Our clients preference has changed over the years which is more based on their unique experience making salon suites a more strategic move. I also service my customers in a suite and they love the privacy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Opening Nova Salon Suites was a smooth process for the most part. Due to renovations and unexpected construction we did have some delays. However that allowed for more time to prepare for our soft opening and to market to more professionals prior to opening.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Other than becoming a new salon suite owner, I currently specialize in commercial hair extensions and sell my own hair line known as Candy Forever Hair alongside of owning Nova Salon suites. Im known for creating custom quality wigs that last. I also silk press natural hair at a high volume leaving my customers feeling beautiful and confident when leaving my chair. Im proud of the quality services Ive provided throughout the years leading to client loyalty and a full schedule week after week. I believe professionalism, building strong relationships and customer/employees satisfaction has set me apart from other stylist and salon owners..
