Today we’d like to introduce you to Canaan Reese.
Hi Canaan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Canaan Reese Acebal, professionally known as Canaan Reese, is a filmmaker, creative director, actor, and entrepreneur based in South Carolina. He is the founder of Vi Creo Media, a creative agency specializing in cinematic storytelling, commercial filmmaking, photography, and social media management for brands, businesses, restaurants, wedding venues, and hospitality clients. His work and behind-the-scenes content can be found on Instagram at @canaanreeseofficial and @VicreoStudios.
Creativity has always been at the center of Canaan’s life. What began as a passion for filmmaking and visual storytelling eventually expanded into photography, acting, modeling, travel content, and brand development. While those pursuits have taken different forms over the years, they’ve always been connected by one purpose: telling stories that make people feel something.
For Canaan, filmmaking became more than a career. It became the language he used to express ideas and emotions that were difficult to communicate through words alone. Through visuals, movement, and storytelling, he found a way to translate thoughts into experiences people could connect with. Seeing someone watch a film and genuinely understand the emotion behind it remains one of the driving forces behind everything he creates.
That philosophy became the foundation of Vi Creo Media. Rather than creating content simply to fill social media feeds, the agency focuses on producing visuals that leave a lasting impression. Whether it’s helping a restaurant tell its story, capturing the atmosphere of a luxury wedding venue, building a personal brand, or producing a commercial campaign, the goal is always the same: create authentic, cinematic work that people remember.
Canaan’s background in acting and modeling has also shaped the way he approaches directing. Understanding emotion, body language, and visual identity allows him to create content that feels genuine rather than manufactured. Every project is approached with the mindset of creating an experience, not just another piece of content.
Throughout his career, Canaan has worked with recognizable brands across the lifestyle, wellness, hospitality, retail, entertainment, and commercial industries. As Vi Creo Media continues to grow, his long-term vision is to collaborate with hotels, luxury resorts, tourism boards, and global travel brands, creating cinematic campaigns that inspire people to experience the world in new ways.
He believes modern marketing is shifting away from traditional advertising and toward authentic storytelling. Today’s audiences connect with emotion, personality, and real experiences far more than polished sales messages. That belief continues to shape both his creative work and the direction of Vi Creo Media.
At the core of everything Canaan creates is a simple philosophy: great storytelling has the power to move people, shift perspective, and create connections that last long after the video ends.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been believing in my vision when not many other people did. While building my business, I worked as a valet in a tip-based job that many people looked down on. To me, it was never “just a valet job.” Every dollar I earned went right back into my dream new camera gear, education, travel, and investing in the business I knew I wanted to build.
Throughout the years, I’ve had people tell me I wouldn’t make it in filmmaking, acting, or modeling. I’ve had opportunities fall through, partnerships change, friendships reveal their true colors, and moments where the road felt incredibly lonely. But I’ve learned that success is often lonely before it’s celebrated, and that’s okay. Sometimes pursuing something uncommon means accepting that not everyone will understand it.
I’ve always believed that if you want a life that only a small percentage of people have, you have to be willing to do the things that most people won’t. Growth happens outside of comfort. The moments that scare you the most are often the ones that shape you the most.
Since high school, I’ve pushed one message: you can accomplish far more than you think if you’re willing to fully commit to it. I’ve always wanted to challenge the idea of what’s “normal.” To me, if life becomes too comfortable, you’re probably not growing. Get uncomfortable. Learn from people. Listen more than you speak. Immerse yourself in different cultures. Explore the world. Put in the long nights and the early mornings. Chase experiences instead of excuses. In the end, those sacrifices become the foundation for a life that’s truly worth living
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always considered myself a storyteller before anything else. Whether it’s through filmmaking, photography, acting, modeling, or creative direction, my goal has always been to create work that makes people feel something. Acting was actually where it all began. Learning to step into different perspectives and tell stories through performance eventually led me behind the camera, where I discovered a passion for creating entire worlds—not just being a part of them.
That passion evolved into my personal brand, which ultimately grew into Vi Creo Studios, a cinematic production company and creative agency built around the belief that stories have the power to inspire, connect, and elevate people and businesses. What started as one person chasing a dream has become a brand trusted by companies, entrepreneurs, and organizations to tell their stories with purpose.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of creating content for brands including Amazon, Mattel, Fisher-Price, Marriott Hotels, Anytime Fitness, NASCAR, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, Cellucor, and numerous hospitality, automotive, fitness, and lifestyle brands. Every project has opened another door, introduced me to remarkable people, and allowed me to sit in rooms I once only dreamed of being in.
What I’m most proud of isn’t simply the list of clients it’s the journey. I’ve built my career by taking risks, continually investing in myself, and staying committed to mastering my craft. From directing commercials and producing branded campaigns to acting, traveling the world creating films, and helping businesses grow through Vi Creo Studios, every experience has reinforced why I started in the first place. Every door closed is just an opportunity to open another.
What sets me apart is that I don’t view filmmaking as simply creating content. I believe every brand, every person, and every business has a story worth telling. My role is to uncover that story and bring it to life in a way that creates genuine emotion and lasting impact. At the end of the day, I don’t just want people to remember the visuals I want them to remember how they felt.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always the entertainer growing up. I was definitely the “bad kid,” but never with bad intentions. I was the kid hiding in clothing racks at the store, giving my mom a heart attack before popping out laughing. Looking back, I think I just loved making people feel something, whether it was laughter, excitement, or surprise. In a lot of ways, that’s exactly what I still do today just with a camera.
I’ve always loved traveling, trying new food, spending time with family, and creating traditions. My family used to joke that one day I’d end up entertaining people for a living, and it’s funny to see how that eventually turned into filmmaking, acting, and building my own company. Looking back, they may have seen something in me before I did.
As I’ve gotten older, success has never really been about expensive cars or having the nicest things. Those are nice, but what truly drives me is the ability to take care of the people around me. I want to build a life where my family doesn’t have to worry, where my friends have opportunities, and where I can help the next generation of creatives who are in the same position I once was. If I can help someone believe in themselves a little sooner than I did, that’s a success I’ll always be proud of.
One of the biggest turning points in my life was leaving college. I know it’s the right path for many people, but I knew I had to bet on myself. The only way I was ever going to find out what I was capable of was by putting myself in uncomfortable situations, getting my hands dirty, failing, learning, and figuring out how to climb back out. That decision changed everything.
I’ve always believed that life is meant to be explored, not simply lived. I hope the life I’m building gives the people I love the freedom to explore the world, chase their own dreams, and experience more than they ever thought possible. If my journey inspires even one person to believe they can create an unconventional life, then every challenge along the way was worth it.
