Check Out Brittney Brackett’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Brackett.

Brittney Brackett

Hi Brittney, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m just a girl wishing and working on a few dreams daily. My name is Brittney Brackett and I’m a working actress, producer, children’s book author and television host that has been in this business for many years. I love my job and pray that it continues to keep loving me in return, as I continue to take a path that truly chose me. I’ve also worked in the nonprofit sector for more than 10 years, founding a nonprofit organization called The Outstanding Youth Awards Initiative, awarding 50+ students with over $8,200 in scholarships and securing more than $81,000 in grant funding over 3 years, to implement programming that empowers and motivates youth for success. Our program has also introduced access to free mental health counseling sessions, wellness retreats and community book grants and contests to encourage creativity and continued literacy efforts in black and brown communities.

Recently, I’ve evolved in my career and taken a leap of faith by producing and directing films, working to shed light on mental health, anxiety, generational trauma and black healing, with a new documentary film in the works. My films have been shown at various festivals across the U.S, and I recently won the 2024 Best Actress Award in the Cinematography and Videography Awards Film Festival, as well as Honorable Mention in the 2024 Fresh Black Films Festival.

I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to be recognized by South Carolina Voyager Magazine!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This industry isn’t for the faint of heart and I’ve learned lots of lessons along the way. I’ve matured a great deal in my personal and professional life since I first began acting, and I’m blessed to have been able to continue on this unique journey for more than 20 years. What helps me stay grounded is that I realize I don’t know it all and there’s ALWAYS more to learn. So I continue my acting and filmmaker course study and remain a forever learner to stay well-rounded.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I always joke that NO ONE will out work me, but it’s the truth. I fit as much as humanly possible into a day because tomorrow isn’t promised. I’ve never been lazy, and my work ethic has gotten me where I am in show business because people respect my hustle and see that I’m very serious about my craft. Yes, sometimes hustle culture seems “played out” to some, but in the gig industries, that’s how we live our lives and it’s an intricate part of who we are. I’m most proud of my community efforts through my nonprofit, The Outstanding Youth Awards Initiative that benefit kids and teens because we all can use a reminder that we’re on the right track sometimes to keep us on our path of purpose.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I learned that I have moderate anxiety which stemmed from the pandemic, and that led me to publish my 7th children’s book, My Safe Place, a mindfulness activity book for kids. Having anxiety has taught me to take one day at a time and try to enjoy the process- even when it may be hard to comprehend. Our book is available online with Amazon and Barnes and Noble, with all proceeds benefiting our nonprofit’s programming. My nonprofit has sold books across the Southeast and globally as far as the United Kingdom and Germany- gifting more than 350 copies to schools and libraries, community centers, and various youth organizations with our latest grant from the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and Senator Karl. B. Allen. This has blessed my Board of Directors and I to feel the impact of our efforts in an up close and personal way, in Greenville, SC and beyond.
