Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Haliabalias
Hi Ashleigh, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My fiancée Bella and I were wedding planning and came across these cool beer/drink trucks and thought “We need to have this at our wedding”. At the time (and still currently) Bella and I worked in healthcare as our full-time gigs. We were getting burnt out and needed a change. Combining our own personal wedding planning and this chronically drained feeling from work created the perfect storm for starting our own business. We saw how much fun it was to see people celebrate and wanted to be a part of that in some way. After researching and finding the truck we wanted, Bella and I took the leap to start The Fizzery.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to starting The Fizzery was such a great learning opportunity. There were challenges and setbacks, but overall when I reflect on where we started and where we are now I can’t help but feel proud. We purchased the truck and had to tear it apart and put it back together basically. I have no experience in renovation, so this was all new territory. It was so fun getting to pick out our design schemes. It was a little less fun when we hated the design and had to redo it – but still a good time nonetheless. The backside of the truck where all the functional components are located was designed and built just for us. A big thanks to my dad for his handy work! Aside from the construction parts, learning how to operate a draft system was new to us too. Getting hands-on experience was crucial; and this came with a lot of mess-ups and clean-ups. I wouldn’t change any of it though, and we are so happy that we are where we are now.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Fizzery is a tap truck that serves as a unique addition to any type of event. When conceptualizing the truck and what we wanted for it, we knew that we wanted something a little different. We knew that drinks were a ubiquitous thing when it comes to get-togethers and thought “How can we add to that?”. The truck itself has four taps and we can serve just about anything. We offer custom drinks and personalized décor to make our customer’s events feel even more special. Our specialty is kind of based on not having a specialty. We want to show up for any event, whether it be a wedding, a baby shower, a movie night, or a pet’s birthday. We hope to be accessible to anyone who wants to work with us and want that to set us apart from others. We are relatively new and are still figuring out our groove, but we hope to be known for our quality, service, friendliness, and easiness when working with us. We are also a woman-owned and LGBTQ+-owned business and want to be known as an accepting and safe place to do business with.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that the rewards you reap are so worth the time and effort put into creating something of your own. There were so many times where my frustration was at its limit and I was ready to give it all up. I’m so happy that I didn’t because I truly love having this business and being fortunate enough to celebrate with people on their happiest days.
