Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Dolan
Hi Anna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Art has been my preferred way of communicating and understanding the world around me for as long as I can remember. My love of creating led me to major in studio art at the College of Charleston where I also acquired an internship at a prestigious floral design studio. After graduation, I spent the next five years working as an event florist while also pursuing fine art on the side. After years of trying to balance the two mediums, I’m thrilled to open my own atelier where fine art and floristry can be explored together. The love of creating visual stories is what drives my work. Whether creating a unique atmosphere through floral design or capturing a precious moment in a painting, I hope to fill space with visuals that celebrate emotion, memories, and new beginnings.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life as an artist has been full of ups and downs. There have been times when a design didn’t translate the way I envisioned or my work didn’t sell as I had hoped. However, looking back, it’s clear that every piece of art was necessary to my growth and served its own purpose. I’ve learned that joy can be found in both the success and failures of art so long as I get to do what I love – create.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in both fine art and floral design. I’ve spent years keeping the two separated, but it is now my hope to joyfully explore the two mediums in my own studio! My goal is to celebrate emotion, memories, and new beginnings through my designs. I love transforming a venue with flowers to celebrate a new marriage as well as capturing a memory through a painting or sketch. I strive to create with intentionality and curiosity, evoking a sense of both familiarity and wonder.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I had the biggest imagination! As a child, I spent most days designing costumes, sets, and art that could transport me to another world I had dreamt up. I was drawing every chance I could get. One of my favorite pieces of art was a drawing I made for the “100th day of school celebration” in kindergarten. While most kids brought crafts like a necklace with 100 beads or a tshirt with 100 stamps, I drew 100 (and 1) dalmations on a poster board. Each dalmation was doing a different activity or wearing a silly outfit!
