Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Roe.
Hi Angela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with childhood sketches and sunset-watching when I should’ve been doing homework. It eventually led me to the Art Institute of Chicago and a career in commercial design working in New York City, Los Angeles, and Atlanta before moving to the Savannah Area.
In the beautiful, demanding blur of motherhood and work, I realized I was losing the girl who used to sit outside and just see the world. I picked up a paintbrush to find her again. What started as a way to reclaim my identity has turned into a flood of endless inspiration!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve always been an artist, however I didn’t start painting until about six years ago.
Diving into Painting at my age was a challenge in itself.
But I pushed myself to learn as much as I could.
I worked with many mentors. The goal was to be able to paint anything. I feel like I have achieved that. Because I pushed myself to be able to create almost anything.
I now enjoy working with interior designers and creating pieces that work with individual homes and families.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is a bridge between the expansive skyscapes of the Georgia coast and the internal search for clarity. After years in the design worlds of Chicago, New York, and LA, I moved to the Lowcountry to find a different perspective. My paintings are about that shift—moving out of the “blur” of modern life and finding focus where the clouds meet the horizon.
The Process
I use oil paint and gold leaf to capture how light actually feels as it moves through the atmosphere. I’m drawn to those quick, powerful moments: a sunset igniting the clouds or the silver glow of a breaking storm. By layering color with reflective metallic accents, I create pieces that change throughout the day as the light in your home shifts.
The Goal
I don’t just want to show a view; I want to catch the energy of it. Whether a piece is soft and atmospheric or bold and active, my goal is to turn a fleeting moment of the sky into a permanent piece of art that invites you to stop, breathe, and look up.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Really important you find someone that understands what your goals are.
I have a strong belief that you should not take advice from anyone that you don’t want to be like.
Take your time and find a mentor that you can trust. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Being known and being seen is one of the best ways to grow yourself and your art.
