Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda And Andrew Burnell
Hi Amanda and Andrew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We were working at the same dance studio about 13 years ago and that’s where we met. We started performing together and that led to dating. About 2 years after we started dating we were presented with the opportunity to buy Summerville Dance Academy, which was only about 2 years old then. We couldn’t resist the offer so in 2015 we purchased the studio, did a little re branding, and transformed it into what it is today. SDA is in its 12th year and thriving with both recreational and competitive programs. We also finished recent renovations last summer and we now have 3 studio spaces inside SDA.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We would definitely not say it was a smooth road, like any business there were plenty of hills to climb. Finding the right team to be with us on this journey took some time and adjustments. It was absolutely a learning experience with lots of trial and error. Having friends in the same boat as us was a huge help to curve some pitfalls and have support and encouragement from our community.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I grew up locally dancing with the Robert Ivey Ballet.and then ventured on to tour and dance all over the US and overseas. Performing was definitely my passion and led me to many wonderful opportunities. While ballet was my main style of dance I have studied and performed many others.
Andrew is most definitely known as an excellent acro/tumbling coach. He grew up as a gymnast and went on to tour with the UniverSoul Circus. After performing for several years he came back to SC and began his teaching career.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I would say coming to support at our events is huge! Sharing our events and offers on social media, word of mouth, etc.

- $70 (45 min classes)
- $80 (1 hr per week)
- $100 (2 hrs per week
- $125 (3 hrs per week)
- Our pricing is set on a monthly scale. Example: $80 for 1 hr each week totaling 4 hrs per month.
