Today we’d like to introduce you to Aliece Christopher.
Hi Aliece , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have worked in the field of physical therapy for 11 years after earning my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2014. I have a deep love for outpatient rehabilitation, with a special passion for pelvic floor therapy for men, women, and children.
Physical therapy has been the perfect blend of my love for movement and my love for people. It is a joy to walk alongside someone on their journey toward a healthier, more active, and pain-free life—and to help them return to the activities they love.
I am detail-oriented and genuinely enjoy diving into research. I am the provider who will stay up late reading journal articles when I believe it will help a patient achieve better outcomes. Because of this, starting my own practice was a natural decision. It allows me to see patients one-on-one, provide truly individualized care, and practice in a way that aligns with my values—free from the constraints of insurance.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Finding a balance between work and personal life has been an ongoing challenge for me. I love what I do and enjoy being deeply involved in my community, but I also have three young children—so life is rarely quiet, predictable, or boring.
I also have a strong desire for physical therapy to be accessible to everyone. Costs of insurance premiums are increasing and physical therapists asked to see more patients in shorter periods of time. I have spent a lot of time trouble shooting and reflecting on ways I can serve the community without sacrificing the quality of care or responsibility to my own family.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been drawn to pelvic floor therapy and was one of only two students, out of a class of more than 60, who genuinely enjoyed that lecture material. Pursuing advanced coursework after graduation, along with becoming a parent myself, further fueled my passion for providing healing and answers in an area of healthcare that is often overlooked or ignored.
I find great fulfillment in helping postpartum women feel strong and confident again, supporting postmenopausal women in enjoying pain-free intimacy, and guiding men who struggle with urinary incontinence back to the activities they love—without limitation.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I enjoy listening to research-based physical therapy podcasts and being part of large professional networks of physical therapists on Facebook, which serve as valuable platforms for asking questions, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another.
I am also a Christ-follower, and for me, that shapes my practice philosophy—the importance of treating each patient with dignity, compassion, and individualized care, and of serving others to the best of my ability.
