Inspiring Conversations with Jordan and Rachel Turchin of The Horse Shoe Farm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan and Rachel Turchin.

Jordan and Rachel Turchin

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Good fortune brought us to The Horse Shoe Farm in 2013, where we were astounded by the endless beauty and sense of peace rooted in its grounds. Feeling a deep connection to the rural nature of the property, we acquired the farm in 2017 to embrace the intimate setting and share it with the world. We transformed the property into a private luxury resort with 85 acres and over a dozen structures to complement the authentic essence and natural landscape.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Life is never a smooth road! The entrepreneurship journey is paved with ups and downs, and we have been grateful for it all. As we’ve grown from offering lodging to our guests to opening an on-site spa and restaurant to the public (during a global pandemic, no less!), we’ve gone through many phases of expansion. There is always a period of contraction and challenge before that expansion can happen, but we have learned to welcome these cycles as they mean growth!

We’ve been impressed with The Horse Shoe Farm, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
The Horse Shoe Farm is an 85-acre family-owned boutique resort featuring lodging, farm-to-table dining, and a luxury spa set in a converted horse barn. Our restaurant, The Silo Cookhouse, focuses on hyper-local fare, with the majority of dishes incorporating ingredients from local farms. Our on-site spa, The Stable Spa, offers signature and specialty massages, wellness and transformative therapies, body and foot treatments, classes, workshops, and retreats. Situated on The French Broad River, The Horse Shoe Farm derives its name from the form this ancient river carves as it snakes through our region in the shape of a horseshoe. Our farm sits fortuitously at the tail end of the horseshoe bend, and the ancient waters continuously flow our way. Serendipity brought us to this land, where we discovered the wonder was more than the sum of the rolling green pastures and magnificent sunsets. There was something more, an unexplainable magic that stirred within its gates. We were awakened to a sense of peace and belonging, a space to commune with nature and the mountains, connect and discover ourselves and each other, and be. And it is so that we were compelled to share what we’d discovered. We feel lucky to share that with you!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
In every challenge, there is a gift of growth waiting on the other side! The comeback is always greater than the setback.
