Today we’d like to introduce you to Titanya Miles.

Titanya Miles

Hi, Titanya. We’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, can you briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story begins on the West side of Greenville, SC, in a small neighborhood called Woodside. To outsiders looking in, there wasn’t much to see. We didn’t have much, and it was not considered a safe area to most people, but to us natives, it was our “safe place.” The neighborhood was filled with love, laughs, family, and fun. We learned to take care of those around us. There were several elderly folks in the neighborhood, and we all did our part to make sure that they were good. This was when I learned I had a passion different from most people my age. At the time, I had no idea running errands for Mr. Emma Lee or Mrs. Fuller, Sweeping off the porch for Grandma Delphine and Grandma Ollie, or even going on egg routes with Mrs. Cammie would lead me into what is now The Essynce of Care Private Sitting, LLC. Those ladies built me for this career, and I will forever be grateful. As I got older, I tried different career paths, but nothing gave me the satisfaction I got from caring for others. At one point, I decided I wanted to be a teacher, so I started volunteering at a center, and “WHEW!” those kids drove me up the wall. As cute as they were, I knew that working with kids was not for me; a friend who has, sadly, passed on investing in CNA classes for me. He said he had a feeling it would get me somewhere one day. Man, was he right! There was no turning back after that. I worked as a CNA for years before I decided to return to school for Healthcare Administration. After graduating, it was so hard to find work. I felt like giving up, but as a single mom with a hard head and a point to prove, giving up was never an option. I wanted to make a difference. That difference would help me and my peers and give us a way to do what we love. I decided to open my non-medical In-home care. I would name it after my firstborn daughter Essynce.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth having is easy to get, so to directly answer your question, no. It has not been a smooth road the entire time. I have been through many trials trying to build my company. I have struggled and fallen on hard times a few times. The best part about falling is how good it feels to get up. I am still in the early stages of business so that I will have more bumpy roads ahead, but there is growth and learning with it all. I am proud of my accomplishments, and I would do it all again because it was worth every trial: struggle and hard times. The funny thing is every time I fall, I get up stronger than ever, and that is the beauty of it all. I learn a lot from my clients as well. Listening to some of their stories makes me wonder, “Who am I to complain?”. They keep me grounded, and how they love me makes it all worth it. Showing up for them is the most important task; no bumps in the road will keep me from showing up.

Great, so let’s get down to business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

The biggest plan for me in the future is to grow, that’s it, grow. I want to provide jobs for my city and help create a safe environment and a better quality of life for the aging population. One of the things I want to do in the future is add to the business by opening an adult activity center here in the upstate—The Essynce’s Angels Adult Activity Center. The goal is to have a safe and secure environment for our clients to go to so that they can be supportive companions to each other.
