Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Law.
Hi Kathy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I graduated in 1997 from Western Kentucky University with a degree in Dental Hygiene and worked that career for 12 years. I then worked for my husband at Dynamic Fabrication, Inc. for 5 years as his bookkeeper and marketing manager. After that, I bought a tanning salon in our small town in Beaver Dam, Kentucky, owned it for 8 years, and turned that into a full-service hair, nails, and tanning salon, adding 7 cosmetologists to our team! I sold the salon in January 2023 and bought my first short-term rental cabin in July 2023- Lola’s Lookout Lodge in Seven Devils, North Carolina! So, I am very new to this business, but I’m not afraid to work hard and learn as much as possible to be successful! That’s the thing about starting a new adventure: you must be willing to learn something new every day, and you can’t be afraid to fail a few times before you succeed!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am not tech-savvy, and as a matter of fact, I have never had to be in anything I did until the short-term rental business! Now, I’ve had to build websites, buy domains, import and export calendars, and use A-I! Most people may be like, “So what?” but for me, this was a huge challenge, and I’m proud to say I faced it, though it likely took me 3 hours to do what it would take one of my daughters 10 minutes to do – I have accomplished a lot of the tech world now that I had run from for 47 years! Brian is a great business partner for me and for 26 years he has always done whatever it takes to set me up for success! I am very thankful for him!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the owner and property manager at Lola’s Lookout Lodge, a short-term rental cabin located in Seven Devils, NC. We are a family-friendly and pet-friendly cabin with 4 bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms, sleeps 12 people, a small pet run area, hot tub, pool table, and tons of cool amenities (wine, snacks, s’mores, waters, etc.) that I love to leave my guest as a thank you gift for choosing us! If I know it’s your birthday or anniversary, I will also leave a card for you! What sets us apart is how hands-on we are in our STR business. I try to stay at the cabin at least once a month for any improvements or repairs that need to be made. I try my best to provide unimaginable hospitality to my guests, leaving them with a sense of who I am even though I live 7 hours away!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I played sports growing up, so I was very disciplined about my time and school, and that has carried over into my adulthood. I am the youngest of three girls.
