Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeb Parsons.

Zeb Parsons

Hi Zeb, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Professionally, my story starts in Ireland, where I came across the concept of bricolage (creation or construction from a diverse range of available things) in my master’s program. I wrote a paper on the topic of recycling in the American South, which planted the seed for my future trajectory. Fast forward a few years, and I worked for a company in Australia doing contract supply chain work. It was a time when I was quickly realizing that the 9 to 5 world was not for me. I decided to expand upon the paper I had written years earlier. I started workshopping the idea in a business pre-accelerator in Melbourne to determine if there was any viability in innovating in the residential recycling space. The concept was crafted more around logistics efficiencies, but upon returning to Greenville, SC, I realized the business had to be more than that to succeed. We needed a processing component. The need for a processing component and the fact that Greenville had stopped recycling glass led me into the world of turning glass waste into a sand resource, and that’s the space in which I currently operate.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It’s always a challenging road. There are always many possibilities on the table, the best of which will see you heading to Tahiti in the morning, but that has yet to happen. There’s always a spectrum of good and bad on the table, and the reality always falls in the middle. However, it takes time to realize this. For myself, this holds on both the business and personal fronts. Most of my struggles have come on the personal end. There have been familial health issues that created a period of real turbulence during the early days of starting my business. When it comes to struggle, some days, success is as simple as putting one foot in front of the other.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Bricolage Dynamics Inc.?
Bricolage turns glass waste into a sand resource. We contract with households and businesses to provide a local glass recycling solution that allows residents to see where their materials are going. We’re unique in that we are an end-to-end provider, meaning we pick up materials, process the materials, and then ship the materials, all within a two-hour ecosystem radius. This model allows us to provide a more personal touch for our customer base while increasing recycling visibility and reducing risk. Eventually, we plan to franchise the business. We’re simply an environmental tool that households can use to accomplish their own sustainable objectives.

Can you talk to us about the role of luck?
I’m unconventional in that I find bad luck motivating, and plenty of that seems to be going around. I also find bad luck humorous, for whatever reason. Good luck results from creating as many opportunities as possible. I’ve always been told to try seven different things; the one that works is the direction you’re supposed to head. Several marked instances along the way have paid dividends over the years, but they came about due to progressive consistency more than anything.
