Cecily “CeeCee” Witcher

Hi Cecily “CeeCee,” please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Traveling Butterflies was born when I went through a very difficult time; while working on my healing, I visited Costa Rica on an Eat Pray Love expedition, lol. While there, I visited a butterfly sanctuary, and it was magical. The butterflies were all over me. When I left the butterfly sanctuary and returned to my hostel, I started reading my bible and realized I was in school. Still, like the butterflies I saw earlier, I would go through the healing phases and receive my wings. The butterfly is my forever muse, and I did receive my wings, so now I feel it is my obligation to god/universe as a thank you to never keep my art to myself and share it with the world, so I enjoy hosting at my beautiful art studio at Good Art Co and traveling to various festivals sharing my paintings & butterfly accessories.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When COVID hit, I packed up my studio in Brooklyn, NY & relocated to Greenville, SC. Luckily, I could secure an art studio once I moved here, but it was a big change because I had to reestablish myself as a serious artist and work hard to find my tribe.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in mixed media, but I will say I’m an all-around artist, so if I’m not careful, I will have my hands in too many things, and my studio will be in total disarray; all of my art is a butterfly, meaning no matter the piece there will be a butterfly in it. I enjoy painting and experimenting with different mediums. I’m currently in an acrylic & clay phase, where I hand build the butterfly with clay & plaster, which gives the best texture, so if you were to come by my studio now, that is what you’d see and love.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is letting people know, “This too shall pass” because they see my work and think life must be so great for her, but what they don’t know is this is what saved my life, and if I can make it, you can too. I want people to stop being mean to each other and practice more compassion because everybody is going through something.
