Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Seaba.
Hi, Katelyn. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Katelyn Seaba, I was born and raised in the Midwest (Iowa City, IA) until I moved to SC in 2020. I went to St. Ambrose University under a bowling scholarship and graduated with a bachelors in behavioral neuroscience. After taking a few years off I went back to Palmer College of Chiropractic in 2017 and graduated in 2020 with my doctorate of Chiropractic. The reason I chose the chiropractic profession is because I became fascinated with the human body when I started my exercise/workout journey in 2011. Fast-forward to 2013, I kept getting a rib that would feel locked up on me, making it hard to breathe without pain. I would see a chiropractor for this issue, which was almost instantly fixed. After that, I knew Chiropractic would always be a part of my life. Later, when I became a fitness coach in 2014, I incorporated Chiropractic into my fitness career. Thus, I went back to school and became a rehab-focused chiropractor where I can incorporate the things I love into my practice, and teach people how to move, move well, and pain-free.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One struggle I had was taking 3 years from graduating undergraduate school and returning to graduate school. It was tough being one of the “older” kids in class and re-learning how to study and stay up with the crazy amount of material that you would learn daily. The second biggest struggle was starting a business right out of school. I needed to prepare for the business world, so I had to learn a lot from books and podcasts. Two, banks would only look at my production plan to get a loan if my income-to-debt ratio was substantial. However, I overcame this and could open my business in May 2021! My last struggle was moving to a state I had never been to and not knowing anyone. Developing relationships, personally and in the community, took a long time. I had to make a name for myself.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Dynamic Chiropractic and Functional Movement?
My Chiropractic practice is unlike any other in the Midlands. I work to help people help themselves by giving them corrective exercises, soft tissue therapies (scraping, cupping, and manual soft tissue modalities), adjustments, and dry needling to help their ailments. My job as a Chiropractor is to educate you about your condition and reiterate why it is important to move well and move often. This sets me apart from most other chiropractors because I teach my patients how to manage their pain outside the office. Most people don’t know that a lot of joint/nerve pain (not just in the spine) comes from a spinal source. My goal is to find the source of the pain and attack it at the source. I spend extended visits anywhere from 15-45 minutes, depending on what type of visit. I also don’t make my patients buy into long-term care plans. I visit regularly and see how they are progressing through treatment because the care “plan” should be as individualized as the person’s.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Columbia. I have always wanted to move to the South; I’m from Iowa originally, so the weather here is heaven compared to Iowa winters. It’s hot in the summer, but I will take this heat over the snow and ice any day. I also love that Columbia is a college town too. Being from a college town myself, it makes me think of home. Who doesn’t love college football?
Pricing:
- My pricing scale may be more than the Chiropractor down the street, but for good reason.
- I spend time and energy in each appointment to make sure you leave feeling better with more education about your condition.
- You may spend 5 minutes in the office down the street, whereas with me, you’ll likely spend 15-45 mins, depending on your appointment type.
