Hi Kelly Mason and Kristen Blanks, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our story started in church. We met through mutual friends in church, and one day Kristen told me that we would be best friends; we have been friends ever since. We laughed, cried, worshiped, and even vacationed together. After our last trip together, we were both struggling with getting back into the everyday routine of being a single mama, and we started talking about how much laundry we had to do. There was so much laundry to be done that we talked about paying someone to pick it up and deal with it. We could not find someone in our area who offered this service, and we said why don’t we? We knew other mamas and busy people could benefit from this service. Take a Load Off Laundry services was born a few weeks later!
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No small business owner will ever tell you that starting a business is smooth. Especially not starting a business with a friend and as two single mamas with full-time jobs. We needed to be more balanced between allocating time for our faith, our families, our professional responsibilities, and the new business. But we have intentionally made time for our friendship outside of the business. We have typical obstacles new businesses deal with. Our main struggle has been getting our name out there. When we get new customers, and they experience the convenience and ease of utilizing our services, they are hooked! We have big dreams to expand our business to a physical location in multiple cities, so our next hurdle is obtaining the capital to realize these dreams.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As Beaufort’s only full-service mobile laundry business, we ensure that our customers’ clothing and other washable items receive proper care, including sorting, washing, drying, and folding, resulting in clean, well-maintained garments. We also offer dry-clean concierge services, preventing the need for an extra trip. We specialize in building relationships with our customers. Laundry is a very personal task, so we make it a point to assure our customers that their laundry will be handled with the highest level of care. A corporation can’t offer the level of personalized service that we can. Our faith is an integral part of our business and business practices. We used one of our favorite bible verses to define our identity. Proverbs 31:25 – She is clothed in strength and dignity, reminds us that the Lord enables us to do anything with strength and grace. Our faith is also front and center in our business practices; we strive to be an industry leader with Christian Values, serve others, be a good steward of our resources, and engage our community with compassion. Our goal is to create opportunities to serve our community through our business.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
We fondly remember times of going to church camp, Being able to be a kid, and experiencing outdoor activities while learning about God.
