Life & Work with Long Tran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Long Tran.

Hi Long Tran; it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Since high school, I loved to design clothes. I went to Columbia College Chicago to major in fashion design and photography. Later, I decided to come to New York City to create my “Long Tran” brand and make it happen. After Lady Gaga wore my designs, I started a ready-to-wear line. When the world was shutting down in 2020, I still worked on a project of my own called Longwayrunway which I would create one look for the different locations I traveled to.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road was rough and smooth, but I overcame all the obstacles with a positive and happy attitude. Just like other businesses, fashion is à competitive industry. You must always be creative and have great networking, or maybe you must be born rich. As an immigrant, a rich background was my disadvantage. I had to use my brain and heart to make up for what I was missing. Therefore, I was thriving and passionate about what I do best – designing.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I designed avant-garde men’s and women’s clothing. People used to tell me that my style can be in 2 words: “Another World” because I loved to create one-of-a-kind pieces and hard to copy. A good example is my Longenecker shoes which Lady Gaga wears on Lettermen Show and other events. That is also something I am most proud of.

What were you like growing up?
I was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. I came to the US when I was 15. As a young kid, I love to stand out and do something different. I used to want to be a singer because I loved the cool outfits they wore, but I could not sing that well. I love painting and designing homes.
