Rising Stars: Meet Ryan Lill-Washington of Charleston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Lill-Washington.

Hi Ryan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My music career started with acoustic shows around town, then blossomed into pop music that took off on local radio. My career grew over time, and now I’m touring with the comedy genius of Davi Crimmins!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not. Growing up gay in the South has trauma, but I pushed through it. There was nothing smooth about my career or personal life. The online hate I’ve gotten has made it difficult to enjoy the highs and almost impossible to manage the lows.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Even though my career started in acoustic music, it somehow led to all the artistry I’m involved in now. From comedy to fiction writing to putting out a full-length pop album. My second novel just hit number one in LGBT thriller new releases. I’m most proud of how I’ve handled the rocky waters and have allowed my sound to change not just myself but my sound.

What do you think about happiness?
My family & friends. They’re the reason I can do the things I do without care of failing. I know no matter how far I take it or how high I try to go, I have them to catch me. It keeps me moving forward without the fear of falling.
