Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Morgan.
Hi Matthew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I like to consider myself a wood lover. I love building things and working with all materials, but primarily wood is my passion. I have come a long way in 20 years since I started woodworking; it started when I was a child watching my father; he is an amazing craftsman and can build anything he desires with the highest level of complexity and quality! My Venture in the Lumber Business – being an experienced woodworker and having to spend countless hours finding a good source of high-quality and reasonably priced hardwoods, I am familiar with the struggle most woodworkers face nowadays.
“How do you make a high-quality product from solid hardwood that people can still afford?” Our goal is to be the solution to this problem! We can provide high-quality hardwood lumber for local woodworkers at a reasonable price so that more people can enjoy the beauty and art of woodworking and natural wood furniture. We can achieve this by milling salvaged hardwood logs on our sawmill locally and using practical and economical drying methods that still produce high quality while not breaking the bank. This takes a lot of hard work and patience, but in the end, it allows us to offer a beautiful and affordable product for our customers.
After 7 years in business, we now have a 3,200 sqft woodshop that we use as our indoor lumberyard as well as a 2400 sqft dedicated space for our woodshop and CNC machining capabilities where we build custom furniture. Our journey has been a wild and unplanned ride, learning as we grow, but one that I wouldn’t trade for anything! This year in 2023, I was fortunate enough to leave my 10+ year engineering career to pursue my love for wood full-time! With extra time to spare, we are now looking for new ways to expand our business to serve our local community in the Upstate of South Carolina. We are excited for the future and very grateful for the support that we have had thus far from our customers.
Thank You,
Matt Morgan

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid was an interesting challenge, and we first needed to figure out what to expect, as most people didn’t. Ironically, in the end, we wound up being fairly busy during this period as most people ended up spending their “Covid time off” remodeling and renovating. We are in the right business at the right time. Other than that, there are always unforeseen and unpredictable futures you must be prepared for as a business owner. However, I have learned to push forward regardless of what unknowns lie ahead and to have faith in our mission, products and services, and business model. Giving up is not an option, and as long as I am able, I can address any problem to come up with the best viable solution as they occur.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
We specialize in providing a crucial resource for making beautiful and sometimes functional things. From guitar bodies to Tabletops and Long Bows to Canoe Paddles, there is no limit to what our creative customers can use with the materials that we create. We focus on more unique specialty woods and species and ensure they are processed in the highest quality through our milling and kiln drying process. This is the most challenging part of producing lumber, and we decided from the beginning whether we would do it the best or not. We also love to build custom furniture and hope to inspire others to do so! We have many customers that are “new” to woodworking, and one of the comments I hear repeatedly is that we do such a great job of “helping them out” with some aspect of their woodworking journey makes me very happy.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
