Conversations with Taniya Singleton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taniya Singleton, founder of Savage Cheer Life.

Hi Taniya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
Savage Cheer Life, LLC started as a blogging-style platform to showcase my talents and journey throughout the stomp’n’shake world during my collegiate career. As co-captain & captain of my college team and captain of an all-American team, there were numerous opportunities to showcase what I could do, and my peers loved it! From 2018-2020 I got a lot of push and support from my cheer sisters to make it into a business. My choreography skills were A1, my creative abilities were unmatched, and I’ve always said I want to take what my coaches have poured into me over the years and pour it into the next athlete. And that is how Savage Cheer Life was born and why I teach others how to #CheerLikeASavage.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been easy, but it hasn’t been a pain in the you-know-what. It’s honestly been a rewarding learning experience. Because what I do is unique, there isn’t a business structure or template to follow because nobody has ever done it before. In the cheer world, everything is by word of mouth what team you should compete with, what coaching staff you should train with, and what camps a team should attend. So nobody will train with you if nobody knows you or what you can do. That has to be the most challenging part regarding growing your clientele. You may get one or two that solicit services, but you need the ones that stick and keep returning for more. And when they return for more, you know you’re doing something right. And that’s what I love about what I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Most people would never guess, but I have a degree in biology. While obtaining this degree, I completed an internship with a small business called Pollination Apothecary. It is a black woman-owned holistic wellness brand based right here, out of Charlotte, NC. Her products can be found at Earth Fare, Wegman’s, MOM’s Organic, Amazon, and her website. I made the products from scratch: hair milk, conditioning shampoo, gut support tea, feminine balance tea, and many other great products. Everything is made from natural and organic raw materials, so all ages and skin types can use it. What does this have to do with my degree? One day, I want to run my research lab and be multi-faceted in my skills.

Please talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy.
Cheerleading makes me happy! It’s my passion! Anytime someone brings it up to me, they always say I can hear the passion in your voice. I can see how talking about it makes you light up. It started to become my happy place in middle school. If I wanted to escape my reality, not think about life’s shortcomings or what I didn’t have at home, I would cheer. I hated running in high school, and I still hate it to this day, but I didn’t care when it came to whether or not I’d be sitting in my warm-up or standing in uniform come Friday night. I did whatever it took to be the best, so I always held down the front where I belonged.
