Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Thomas.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Before moving into my role as a Stress Care Coach and Meditation Instructor, I worked in the wellness space as an integrative health coach and clinical herbalist. I gained priceless experience working alongside doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and other practitioners during that time. Over the years, I noticed that the most challenging, most persistent problem that stalled a client’s healing process was the effects of stress in their lives, so I began seeking ways to support them. At first, I was focusing on diet, supplements, and herbs to help with stress, but clients were having difficulty staying consistent. I was looking for answers to how to help these clients when I had a series of extremely stressful events. This led me to research how I could calm my anxiousness and overwhelm. I was one stressed-out mama! Research kept pointing to mindfulness practices as a tool, but my mind struggled to focus. That’s when I discovered guided meditation, Reiki, EFT Tapping, and sound bath therapy. These tools each helped me relax so my body could begin healing. Now I share these in class and workshops in the Lowcountry and person. I have also created Stress Care Coaching services where clients can get one on one support in healing their body, mind, and spirit through restoring healthy sleep, nourishing their body, and calming their stress.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been many challenges along the way. One of the biggest obstacles was finding suitable locations for meditation and sound bath events. I was very excited when Ohana Yoga studio opened in Moncks Corner, and I was able to join as a meditation teacher. This was a huge blessing to our community. I am so excited about the future of our mindfulness community!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
They say you teach what you must learn, and nothing could be more true! My work has come from a genuine desire to find solutions where standardized systems have failed. As an empathic, intuitive, neurodivergent mama that has experienced stress & trauma, I know how it can rob us of our happiness and connection to those we love. I went from student to teacher after discovering the power of meditation, sound bath therapy, and reiki during her healing crisis. It was like someone handed me the keys to making the changes I needed to feel better. Suddenly, I could move through the ups and downs of physical and emotional challenges with strength and resilience. The sessions & workshops I offer are designed to capture the attention of busy minds by incorporating immersive tools such as sound bath therapy, reiki, EFT tapping, guided visualization, mantras, and more. I pride myself on creatively assisting students in cultivating calm that follows them from the mat into their daily lives. With the proper support, everyone can calm the chaos of their mind and live a more joyful life.
Please talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy.
When students first come to a class or book a session, they are often physically and emotionally uncomfortable. Watching the tension in their bodies release as they experience relaxation and peace for the first in weeks or sometimes even months is amazing. Nothing makes me happier than hearing students’ stories of increased awareness, resilience, and recovery.
