Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Marsingill.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
While planning my son’s first birthday, I quickly realized I loved party planning and details. I started shopping around for what I wanted. I was a stay-at-home mom after a rough pregnancy and having to quit my job, so we couldn’t afford any of the party items I wanted for him. Instead, I decided to learn how to make it all. I started making and selling party supplies on Etsy to help give us the little extra income we needed while I was home with my sweet boy. Life happened, I became a single mom, had to return to working in an office setting, and King Krafty Pants dissipated. After marrying my wonderful husband, Brendon, moving to Charleston, and finding out I was pregnant with Brinley, I decided to be a stay-at-home mom again. I continued throwing fun parties for my kids, and family and friends began gently pushing me to try to make money from this passion. From this, King Party Pants was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not. As mentioned before, after my first child, I became a single mom before his second birthday. I returned to an office job and tried to continue to do King Krafty Pants, but I couldn’t handle everything on my own. I’d drop Zeke off at daycare, work my 8-5, pick Zeke up, do our nightly routine, and then stay up for hours after his bedtime to fulfill orders. I couldn’t sustain it. King Party Pants has been very different, though. Brendon supports me 100%. He encourages me and wants this to succeed because he knows it makes me happy. My family, friends, and this amazing community have all been so supportive, and it’s helped make this new part of my journey (so far) very smooth!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
King Party Pants offers party planning, kid’s party packages, and balloon installations. I love building a party from the ground up, adding personal touches, focusing on every little detail, and seeing everything come together at the end. I try to bring whatever theme you give me to life. I love party planning, but with this, I’ve also found a love for balloon installations. I try to set myself apart by adding details I haven’t seen before. I spend hours contemplating every detail and figuring out how to tie everything together seamlessly. I pour my heart into every party and balloon install. This isn’t a job; it’s my way of spreading what brings me joy to others. There’s no better feeling than finishing balloons or a party and seeing someone’s face light up, knowing that that time and energy was focused solely on bringing them joy and celebrating them. I know there’s so much bad in the world, but I feel like party planning helps us focus on what’s good, the people we love, and the reasons we want to celebrate them. I can never thank my clients enough for letting me be a small part of that.
Before we go, can you talk to us about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
I’ve found very quickly that word of mouth is everything. I’m so thankful my neighborhood community has had my back. They constantly recommend me, tag me on social media, comment, share, tell friends about me, etc. I wouldn’t be able to succeed without that. I’ve also been fortunate to meet many other amazing business owners through this journey, specifically other mamas who own their businesses. We are each other’s biggest cheerleaders. We celebrate the wins and are there for the losses. We build each other up, bounce ideas off each other, and are just there when needed. I’ve been most excited when I’ve been able to plan parties and find other vendors to bring on board. I’m thankful that this area has so much talent! I’ve found amazing caterers, Charcuterie artists, marquee letter owners, cookie bakers, party favor creators, and so on! This business is so cool because there are so many different vendors that complement it, and it gives me many opportunities to work with so many amazing people!
