Meet Brandi Carter of Clemson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Carter.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I started baking at fifteen to cope with my anxiety and depression. After high school, I enrolled in culinary school at Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead, New York. I studied there for two years and earned my baking and pastry arts associate’s degree. SCCC also allowed me to study abroad in Florence, Italy. After graduating from SCCC, I embarked on my journey to Clemson University, where I majored in English. Baking has always been my true passion. I sat in class googling cupcake pictures, recipes, and “how to open a bakery.” As a hobby, I started baking in my dorm room, then moved my blossoming business into my off-campus townhouse. I dropped out of Clemson University to pursue my bakery business full-time. In June 2018, I opened my first storefront at 405 College Ave. Sadly, our landlord decided to sell the property after a year of owning our first location. In the summer of 2022, we opened a small satellite location in Seneca. We decided to close our small bakery six months later to build a food truck. Amidst building our truck, a wonderful storefront location in Clemson became available. I knew in my heart that I had to take advantage of this opportunity. On February 14th, 2023, we opened our doors in Clemson again.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a bakery has been the most rewarding challenge I’ve ever encountered. One of the main struggles we faced was finding the perfect location. I am confident that 518 College Avenue will be Lindough Bakery’s home for years.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
We are known for our over-the-top cupcakes! There are millions of flavor combinations and designs for dreaming up a menu. Amazingly, something so small can be a tiny edible masterpiece.

What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The baking industry is constantly evolving and changing. There’s a new dessert trend each year! It’s exciting to hop on the new trends and make them our own!
