Conversations with Martinez Finney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martinez Finney.

Hi Martinez, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Getting into this industry was hard, and I would ask people who were already in the industry how to get in, but they would only tell me if they believed I could do it. So I decided to research and found some local talent agencies. I reached out, and they got back to me and invited my mom and me to the agency. I had no idea what to expect. The woman there was very nice, and she liked me and, to my surprise, told me I was handsome and that I should take one of their classes. She gave me one of her cards, and I enrolled in one of their acting classes a few weeks later. After the classes were over, I just put my new passion on pause because I didn’t feel I was confident enough. However, after some life-challenging events, I decided to pursue my passion. After 2 years, I found her card and gave her a call. She told me she had an audition in like 2 weeks and mentioned some commercial scripts to practice. Fast forward two weeks, I show up, and she remembers my mom and me. I did well, and they decided to sign me to their agency, and I booked my first paid modeling gig about 2 weeks later. Fast forward 3 years, I am still signed with them, and we have a great relationship.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
I have had many ups and downs. Getting told no was a big thing that I had to learn in this industry, and this was a hard lesson. Even now, with experience, I still get told no a lot, and it’s not easy. However, I no longer fear rejection and go after any opportunity. Because I know the yes that I will get soon after what feels like millions of No’s will change my family and my life forever.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a model and actor. I have a support system and people who want me to succeed, but I don’t say I know just yet, but it’s coming. I am most proud of my choices and for listening to the ones who love and support me the most. What sets me apart from others is my passion. This is bigger than me, and I will do whatever it takes to bring my vision to life.

Alright, before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
I shoot and collaborate with photographers, videographers, models, creatives, etc.
