Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortney Ecklor.
Hi Cortney; please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for nature started very young. I started camping at only a few months old, and my family vacations consisted of camping and exploring. This started my passion for adventure and desire to see amazing new places. Fast forward to 2009, when I started my own family. I also wanted to bring the desire for nature and adventure to my family. Although my husband had not traveled much as a child, he was on board for showing our kids the beauty of nature and the desire to see new places. As we continued to camp and bring our kids to local and distant destinations, I found I was passionate about capturing our moments, the landscapes around us, and my children exploring the new terrains. In 2018 I started expanding my passion for photography beyond my family and our vacations. I set out to build a business. Although I still work full time in marketing, my business skills, and desire to capture every season, have driven me to what my small business has become today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to family/portrait photography could be faster. I have spent the last several years trying to build my clientele. However, outside of seasonal mini-family events, I have yet to be able to stay very steady. In addition, I have attended maker fairs and other events to try to sell some of my landscape photography. However, this, too, needed to be faster. Although I have not been able to break into the market and make a large name for myself, I hope that someday my passion can grow and bring happiness to everyone that books a family session, purchases a landscape image, or even follows the journey on social of Cortney E Photography.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a natural light landscape and family photographer. This means I only shoot outside, in nature, and with natural light. I am known for my colorful yet slightly moody family portrait sessions. In addition, I am known for traveling the US full time with my family in our fifth wheel, trying to visit as many national parks as possible. I am most proud of where I have come with my photography. I have been self-taught, and I truly love being able to share the beauty of nature the way I see it. What sets me apart from others is that I pride myself on creating a relaxed environment for families, incorporating nature around us, even in Wisconsin (where we are originally from) or the swamps of South Carolina. Every family is beautiful, and every landscape has something amazing to offer. I love being able to incorporate both of these into works of art.
