Life & Work with Shanice Lashun of Greenville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanice Lashun.

Hi Shanice, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I started Nursing six years ago, I felt like I was drowning from the worse decision ever. Transitioning from textbook Nursing to real-life Nursing was mentally, physically, and emotionally rough. It was hard going through this transition and not being able to vent or speak with someone who could relate to what I was going through. Often, as Nurses, no one understands what we see or go through at work. It took me about six months to feel comfortable with my fundamental nursing skills, but I couldn’t help but wonder, what if I’d had a Nurse mentor, someone who could’ve helped me through this transition, listened to my concerns, and helped navigate through trial and error? Would that have made this transition easier? From that day, I vowed to support New Grad Nurses and even seasoned Nurses who feel stuck, provide them with resources, be a safe place to vent, and help them find their worth. I created Lifesaver Lifestyle to inspire, create a community, and cultivate change for Nurses and other healthcare professionals.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been too rough of a journey. My biggest struggle was finding the direction of what I wanted to do with the company—mapping out the direction I wanted to see Lifesaver Lifestyle. I wanted to ensure I knew exactly what I wanted to provide and bring to our community. I probably changed names, branding ideas, and many other things quite a few times. But I’m confident that we’re finally on the right path. It’s time for a change!

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
Lifesaver Lifestyle is a Nursing resource and mentoring company that creates opportunities for Nurses to network, grow into themselves and their skills, and change the narrative of how the world should see Nurses. We currently offer mentoring services for nurses transitioning out of Nursing school and hosting networking events to build Nursing relationships throughout our community. We plan to provide other services down the line, but time with reveal all. Lifesaver Lifestyle is different because there isn’t a company like ours in the region. We’re fulfilling a need that is needed, especially the times we’re in as Nurses. We’re proud of the positive feedback we’ve received since hosting our first Nurse &.Brunch event. 2023 started great for us!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love the most is seeing Black Greenville grow and expand. I was born and raised here, so seeing more Black Owned businesses becoming established in the Upstate area is exciting for our community. It’s setting the tone of what Black Greenville is capable of. I also love the convenience of the highway corridor of our city. We sit dead center around a few major other cities, which makes a day trip and a weekend gateway convenient. How can that not be a plus? I’m not too fond of the lack of community and togetherness within our healthcare communities. We have several healthcare programs in the Upstate area but nothing outside those facilities that help uplift, inspire and create solid networking relationships for us. 2023 is the year for healthcare workers to know their worth and add tax.
