Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaniyah Blake.
Hi Zaniyah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved doing hair. My family is in the hair business and has been my whole life so I kind of picked up the skill from watching them. In particular my mother. In high school, though I started doing hair to pay for little small things that I wanted or needed and it kind of just stuck with me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. Laying the foundation for how I wanted to start my business was a major struggle because it’s soo many ways to go about it. Putting in late nights and early mornings running off of no fumes at times. Trying to balance living a normal life and trying to be an entrepreneur is a struggle in itself.
As you know, we’re big fans of VybeOut Braids. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a black-owned hairstylist. I specialize in braids and locs. I also do other styles suck as sewins, silk presses, etc. I like to promote healthy hair, I’m in the process of starting a hair care line with natural products. Brand wise I’m proud to say I even started a brand for myself! I’m an affordable stylist, I offer just about any service, and if I don’t know how to do it I’ll research and figure out how!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I want to open up my own salon and make it affordable to work in but also make it a safe space for clients
