Today we’d like to introduce you to DaVee Harned.
Hi DaVee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I went to school at Johnson & Wales in Charlotte, NC for Baking and Pastry Arts and Food Service Management. I had picked this career path because if I was going to do something for work, I wanted to choose something I enjoyed doing. After graduating, I dove in and tried to get as much experience as I could in a variety of different outlets from hotels, to restaurants and bakeries. When I started I never really thought that owning my own business would be where I wanted to end up, but here we are! My Fiance really helped push me in the best way possible to venture out on my own, and has been not only a supporter but has helped in so many other ways. Even when I started, I had no idea where I would be two years in, and now we are doing wholesale to some of the best coffee shops and cafes all over Charleston.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anyone who tells you it was a smooth road is a big fat liar. There have been challenges every step of the way. From learning the business side of things and not just baking itself, to hiring, work-life balance, finding products, adjusting to price increases for ingredients, the list is endless.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I was on an episode of Beat Bobby Flay, so that is a pretty cool thing that not everybody has done!
What matters most to you? Why?
My employees. Without the help of my team, a lot of what I do wouldn’t be possible and I would be very tired.
