Community Highlights: Meet Morgan Benz of Welcoming Wellness Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Benz.

Hi Morgan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The feeling of being seen, heard, and understood is something we all desire. I’ve always found the aspect of human connection vital in our journey to alignment! I began my counseling career by majoring in Psychology as an undergraduate at the College of Charleston and then moving on to graduate school at The Citadel Graduate College. While working as a School Counselor, I continued my education to obtain my LPC and opened Welcoming Wellness Counseling with my colleague Caroline, in 2018. For the past 10 years, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults in the public sector and in private practice. It’s been an absolute honor to support the Charleston community in their well-being and mental health.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In a short answer, no! The challenges of my past and as a small business owner have helped me build resilience, confidence, therapeutic skills, and empathy. This suffering and struggle have only helped me step into the therapy room and hold space for others looking to do the same brave work.

I don’t believe therapy is a passive experience that happens “to” you. It’s an active, ongoing relationship that you enter into with yourself and your therapist that requires a commitment and an investment of time, energy, and resources. Wellness and happiness are intertwined and dedicated therapy is an optimal place to evolve and welcome wellness into your life.

Through this dedication, I’ve witnessed clients undergo profound and lasting life changes during the course of our time together- that’s the magic of creating time and space for yourself to be witnessed by someone that you trust.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Welcoming Wellness Counseling?
As a counselor, I strive to create a space for you to be heard without judgment. I have a passion for listening and celebrating individual uniqueness, and offer an authentic space to explore who you are. My goal is to integrate a tailored therapeutic approach to inspire hope, find balance, and renew empowerment in your life. Counseling is an opportunity to slow down, tune in, and explore your internal landscape.

I specialize in women’s issues ranging from life transitions, grief, perfectionism, self-esteem, divorce, and relationship issues. My approach is person-centered, honoring the therapy/client relationship. At Welcoming Wellness Counseling, we utilize forward-thinking modalities such as motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy to treat each individual client.

At Welcome Wellness Counseling, we believe that a true sense of mental and physical health — is achievable when one’s body, mind, and spirit are in alignment.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I witness risk each and every day with my clients. They risk an incredible amount by being vulnerable every time they step into the therapy room. Without risk, I don’t believe there’s room for change, connection, or deep accomplishment!

I certainly believe that some risks have negative impacts and aren’t meant to be taken. But, sometimes, taking risks can change us fundamentally. They make us braver, stronger, and more confident; risks allow us to create the life we want.
