Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Cote.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I had spent 11 years in a corporate gym setting working for Life Time Fitness. Started in Aug of 2021. Moved up the corporate ladder getting promoted year after year. With the promotions came moving. Started in Orland Park, IL then to Warrenville, IL then Des Moines, IA Columbus, OH and then finally Boston, MA. At the height of my career, I made it to Sr Sales manager overseeing my club and then the other 4 clubs in Boston. The company decided to move in a different direction and eliminated all sales roles. This was in Aug 2021. This left me wondering what I was going to do next as I had spent my whole career with one company and playing the corporate game. At that point decided to move back to IL and figure out my next steps. My path crossed with Sanjay Shah the owner of AMSCO Medical. We had known each other from my time working at the Life Time in Orland Park. He offered me the opportunity to start working for his family owned medical supply company and have me start with focusing on Med Spas. Decided to take that opportunity. I stayed in IL growing my book of business. My sister Stephanie LaRoche is the office manager at BeSpoke Med Spa in Seneca, SC. She connected me with her spa and then the referrals started to flow in from the area. In June decided to move from IL to SC to join my sister and my older sister came with as well. Now the whole family is here in SC and I have been just building my book of business here.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road is never smooth. I went from being an expert in my field of fitness to having to learn a whole new business. Having to educate myself very quickly in this new industry has been the biggest struggle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an Account Manager for AMSCO Medical. I specialize in medical supplies, primarily disposable products. I’m known as Matthew Med Spa as I started with Med Spas however, I am in all medical facilities. I’m most proud of all the relationships I have built along the way. The main thing that separates me apart from everyone else is I’m always available. My clients usually get an answer right away from be but defiantly don’t go longer than 10 hours without back hearing from me.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a focused student when it was class time. I would say I was the talker of the class as well but it never affected my school work. Outside of school, I was a total athlete and never had an off-season. Summer was baseball, Fall was Soccer, Winter was basketball, and Spring was Track and Baseball.
