Today we’d like to introduce you to Tabatha Strother.
Tabatha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Being told in my early 20s during 2002 that I had a chronic illness that I could hardly pronounce was simply life altering. The late Dr. Glenn A. McCain seemed to have given me a death sentence when he predicted that in 10-15 years, Fibromyalgia would have me wheelchair-bound.
There were so many emotions and thoughts that filled my mind during the 45-minute car ride from Charlotte, NC home to Chester, SC I could hardly see straight. Somehow I ended up at my grandmother’s house, Big Mama. I informed her of what the doctor said. Her question to me was, “who are you going to believe? Him or God?”
After a couple of days into my pity party, I came to myself and had a heart-to-heart with God. I needed him to touch my body and heal me so I could be the wife and mother He intended. I cried out to God with great sincerity and He heard my cry. He led me to our local Christian bookstore where I encountered the owner, Pastor Annie McFadden.
She recommended a book of healing scriptures. I began to pray, recite and affirm these scriptures over my life daily. Please understand that I was desperate and asked God to show Himself by healing me. And He didn’t disappoint. At 1 time on this Fibromyalgia journey, I was on 12 different medications now I only take 1. I’m not in a wheelchair and I even started a support group in this area.
I still have some painful, fibro days but I am grateful that I have the tools and know how to cope.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. I learned to manage symptoms such as fibro fog, migraines, and chronic fatigue. These symptoms made it difficult and stressful to be a wife and mother because I was in pain often, and had frequent doctors appointment.
My marriage was strained because quality time usually meant my husband caring for me. Also, years later I was called into ministry as an evangelist. This added more stress due to me having to balance more responsibility.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m known as the “Fibro Lady”. #ActionAdvocate When I was diagnosed in my early 20s there was no 1 to stir me in the right direction to receive treatment; therefore I have been advocating for Fibromyalgia for over 20 years. Because of my journey of living with this chronic pain condition and with the aid of the Holy Spirit, I have authored 3 books (two planners and an ebook) geared toward living a healthier life with fibromyalgia.
I am a licensed/ordained minister of the gospel. I currently serve as one of the associate ministers at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Chester, SC. In the kingdomprenuer arena, I am CEO of Tabatha Strother Ministries, LLC, host of the Talking With Tabatha podcast, licensed insurance agent, and notary public. May 6th was my 1 year anniversary of being elected as a City Council member, Ward 1 in Chester.
My family is my pride and joy. Being a wife and mother is a true blessing. My husband and I have been together for 29 years and we have grown so much. He is my priest, protector, and provider. These roles we both take seriously. He’s also my best friend. Motherhood is indescribable. After being told that I wouldn’t be able to have children and having a miscarriage God blessed me to birth 3 children, (1 girl, and 2 boys) and I am the grandmother of 3 beautiful little girls, A’Miyah, Taliah, and Ariane.
I am set apart from others because of the passion that I have for advocating for others and my vulnerability. I believe God put us here to help each other, we are not on an island alone.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
